Doc APPT. Need HELP. Doc told me to eat total 1200 calories per day, don't eat back my exercise calories. She said it was ok to net 600-800 per day! Asked her about adding Cytomel to my med. She said that the body naturally produces T3 and if I added it cytomel it would wreak havoc on my body trying to convert. I asked her "well how do you know my body is converting T3? Her reply; "TSH Testing tells me that" I asked her to add all the recommended blood work to test since I was already getting blood work done. She said to go to my Primary doctor for that. Im am so upset at this ignorance and there aren't many other doc in my area to go to ???
I left the office crying. I am now on a mission to start over and find a new doc......

There's a group called "Thyroid Sexy" on Facebook that has a list of doctors referred by their members by area. I've learned a lot from their posts. Their spokesperson Gena Le Nolin is a thyroid advocate and there is tons of info on the site.
I'm heading to another endo in a couple of hours for a second opinion. I got a referral from a friends sister for this one.
I feel for you... it seems this is the case more than not for thyroid sufferers and it just doesn't make any sense!0 -
Thanks KCritter. I do follow Thyroid Sexy. Love them. I have learned alot. I was diganosed 31 years ago at 14. I have had my share of ups and downs. Very frustrated. I dont like feeling like they are in control.I left here feeling hopeless0

So this new Endo wants to wait 6 weeks on my new dose of Cytomel, then will most likely up it until I feel like I am where I want to be with it.
He also said something that I've never heard before. He said that with Hashimoto's disease, as long as my TPO is high (mine is >1000), I will feel lousy. He said the brain fog, inability to concentrate, and some fatigue is caused directly by the autoimmune aspect of the disease and it will ease up when my thyroid is eventually completely dead and the antibodies have nothing to attack. Since my body is constantly fighting itself, it's almost like I have a virus and I am using my energy to fight it.
Even when/if I get my T4/T3 ratio on point, I won't feel completely better until this happens.
My next question is... why not just take the darn thing out so there's nothing to attack!?!?!?0 -
my doc hasn't even tested my TPO. I even told her my throat hurts in the vacinity of my thyrpid. she gave me an ultrasound script for AUG!!! Wantto talk brain fog, yesterday forgot to go andget lunchmeat formy sons school lunch. Today, forgot my lunch at home andthen went after work to get the lunchmeatI never got yesterday and when I drove into the shopping center I realized a had a nail appt in m in..UGH !!
Doc also toldme to comsume calories/ day total. Do not eat back my exercise cal to net 1200. So I asked to clarify. "so you want me to eat 1200/cal day and ifmy workout burns 500 then your okay with me netting 700 calories per day" Her reply "Yes"
Im so done!!0 -
That's just CRAZY!0

okay got blood work back
TSH .029. due to this Doc is changing my dosage From 182. to 178....
Free T4 = 1.42 (Range 0.550- 4.78)0 -
Glad you are looking for a new doc, because that is unacceptable.
I'm currently on T3 because I'm not converting correctly. Had my doc not done the extra testing, we wouldn't have known and I'd probably be on the wrong meds. I agree with the others on checking the doctor list. I hope there is someone listed in your area that takes your case seriously.0
