Is there a limit to how much/fast you can lose at a time?

What are your thoughts on large calorie deficit on non-overweight people?
I read that very low calorie diets work on the obese and has a negligible effect on their metabolisms initially simply because they have so much more too lose.
What about non-overweight people? Is there a limit to how fast they can lose? Don't know if I'm clear with this, but like does it mean that the lower the calories you intake, the more you will lose, or is it that the lesser you have to lose, your limit for now for maximum weight loss is 1200cals and hence even if you eat 800cals you'd be losing the same amount?

The larger the deficit in a non-obese person, the larger percentage of muscle will be lost along with total body weight.
The greater your deficit, the faster your weight loss will be. Moderate deficits of 10-20% TDEE is optimal for non-obese individuals.0
