What does size matter in this situation? (Bars)

I was debating the purchase of an Olympic weight bar. Browsing online I see they come in 5 feet, 6 feet, 7 feet... Which is the standard size... That would fit a rack of some sort if I get one later down the road...

7' is standard (although standard is actually a size of a bar, just to confuse things).

Thanks. I just realized our OLD iron weight plates won't fit the diameter of the bar.... off to re strategize everything in my life..again.

(why can't things be simple... not confusing...)

I hear you. I am trying to fit a home gym on a space in my home - but the space will not allow for a 7' bar, but I want a power cage, which normally requires a 7' bar. I am trying to engage some problem solving brain matter to work out the best solution. I am even thinking of having one outside somehow and have a cover for it so I can use a 7' bar. Not exactly aesthetic garden furniture!

Less ideal solution, but if you turn the cage diagonally to the walls would that give you the distance to clear the walls?

Its not the walls that are the problem...but the other stuff that is in the room - it's not configured in a way that I can get a full bar to work unfortunately.

Most people have some type of water feature or patio furniture in their garden..I may end up with a power cage

In my house it is not the walls but the "STUFF" (a household of 5 people-3 of then boys...)
I, too, keep thinking about something outdoor, but with snow and rain...... I'm just trying to figure out a simple bench, bar, and few weights, though.

*My Update* I decide to just use my dad's weight bars for now.. They are NOT Olympic, but smaller diameter #18 bars (he has 3 straight, 2 "w", and one that I don't know the name of- with an oval that has hand grips -which is only about 5# I think) and cast iron weight plates

I figure his weights/bar will be fine for now. I can switch to an Olympic Bar when (if) I get to 200+ pounds.

I don't see that as a problem. It would look quite lovely, really. Maybe stick some silk flowers through the spare holes for ambience.

Most people have cars in their garage. Mine is in the driveway because obviously my weight bench (and future power cage) needs that space more.

    Priorities. We has them.
