Raw and Intermittent Fasting?

Hey Everyone,

I am not raw, but I am thinking of doing it. I have Fibromyalgia, and I'm interested to see if it would help with my symptoms. I used to be vegan in my teens, and I remember that's the best I've ever felt.

I've noticed with fasting, I am already at a huge deficit every week. MFP calculates a 3,500 weekly deficit for me now. With IF, I'm nearly doubling that. I try to "make up" some calories, but that just leads me to eat crap food I wouldn't have otherwise ingested, simply to pack in as many calories as possible. I've lost 3.6 lbs. this week, and I certainly don't want to lose any faster than that.

I love IF, and I really don't want to give it up. Is there any way of being completely raw AND doing IF? Is anyone here doing this with success?

That's fantastic that you're looking into veganism. We're all here to help! By adding plant-based foods, you can definitely repair vitamin deficiencies (which often manifest as physical ailments and damage due to no "fuel" for your cells), strengthen the fluid in our joints (healthy plant fats like walnuts and almonds), and make us feel lighter and happier (REAL, natural forms of glucose in the blood that don't overstress our pancreas).

IF and fasting are great for a kickstart in flushing out toxins and readjusting our true appetites for food. It mimics how ancient man may have lived, waiting days to get a real meal in. I think it is possible to do IF while being vegan.

It sounds like your hang-up comes when you see the deficit and eat enough to make up for it (smart lady! We need calories to survive). Maybe by looking at what you're consuming during that time, you can readjust how (or what) you approach getting the calories and nutrients you need to continue losing weight as well as feeling confident in your choices everyday.

If I were in your position, I would be sure to make the meals that I do have full of dense energy and slow burning FATS.. healthy fats. Trail mix made with almonds, walnuts, raisins, dried cherries and sunflower seeds packs a lot of calories without having to consume a large meal that may create a bigger appetite for you.

Also, many trail mixes (like the one I wrote above) are already raw. Good luck to you, and hope this brings some insight.

Yay! For your interest in raw foods! Its a really amazing and beneficial thing.

Intermittent fasting while raw is possible but can negetive side effects. I'm also a fasting coach and I'm all for fasting but when it has its need. Time and time I see people fast and then end up binge eating on foods not good for them. Which in turn leads to weight gain. Fasting, even intermittent isn't substainable to the body as it needs food to run. Most of the time if not always I see weight lost when fasting gained back plus some.

I also have fibromyalgia and raw foods has helped tremendously. I have learned what foods trigger more pain and flare ups. Night shade veggies and hard to digest foods along with fats such as nuts and seeds send me into a flare. You may find things get worse before they get better. Try to be consistant about logging yours foods so you can go back and understand where a flare might have come from.

Feel free to send me a friend request and hope your not in too much pain! :)
