Good morning everyone!! Well, I'm going to be jetting out the door for a full day of a Mommies-Little Girls playdate with a dear friend and her daughter who are visiting after having moved away earlier this year. I always read everyone's comments when I wake up, but it seems you're all in bed and dunno if I should re-bump the old thread by replying. But anyway, I really enjoy reading you.
Thank you for the comments and advice about my calves and shin splints.
I never even considered a foam roller (duh). If (when) I start back running, if my calf continues to hurt, I might roll it with a water bottle or something.
I've never heard of the Jeff Galloway method, but was planning to do c25k, but then just started running instead. I heard that the walking sometimes takes people's momentum away. So I want to run as long as I can, and then walk/rehydrate (my mouth gets very dry from all the huffing & puffing, plus Greece is so arrid and I sweat so much from all this extra insulation on my body, haha), and then do it again. I had thought that for how ever long I could run in the beginning to walk that amount, then to run that amount again.
I don't think I could ice my legs! omg just the thought of it! brrrr! I live in Greece for good reason, I can't stand the cold! I don't even drink ice water! haha!
It's just that stupid hill, errrrrgh! The uphill makes me huff/puff and the downhill makes me nervous about my landing (shin splints are more likely on a downhill). The thing about the park and the hill is that there are tons of people running, who I see ev.er.y.day(!) and I'm sure they could give me some good advice. I'm the type of person to seize an opportunity to talk to someone about something like that...except I don't speak Greek, so my personality and my language (in)ability are constantly at odds here. If any of the experienced runners ever talk to me and speak English, I will definitely ask them what is the best route at the park for a beginner runner.
Now, just to find the time to hit the sports store to see if I can find compression socks.
Okay, here I go babbling on again! Gotta get goin', long day ahead!
I hope each and every one of you have an AMAZING day!!! Take the opportunity to look up into the sky (whether it be blue, or gray) and just be amazed by this world and by life and by all of the people in it. ^__^0 -
Good morning!
Dark and dismal there today. I think I will be running on the TM this morning, yesterday was RI30. I have had 3 very good food days, and I am hoping that i can continue on my streak!
Short one for me today, hope you all have a good work-out day0 -
Good morning everyone! Well rest day for me, which I might actually enjoy this week since I killed myself yesterday.
Hope everyone has an amazing kick booty day!0 -
I'm headed up to the lake so I should get a hike in as well and my workout this evening... hope everyone has has a good day...get your workout on...:-)0

Good morning partners! Our temps went from 80 on yesterday to a windchill of 37 degrees this morning!! Texas' Spring time is extremely unstable...geesh!
I see that those before me are enjoying a rest day or have plans to workout.
Toni: that hike at the lake sounds physical and mentally nice!
Jess: enjoy your rest day...sounds like your body deserves it.
Maureen: I guess you'll have to run however you can get it in...out or indoors...at least you have the options. You are definitely no couch potatoe....LOL!!
Sherry: hope you have a good time with your little girl on that play date. It's funny to hear people use new "slogans" for kids meeting up to play together. Back in my day it was just "kids playing together"...the word "date" was not used...LMBO!! Btw, I think you should just come out of your "comfort zone" and ask one of those runners at the park questions regarding shin splints and the best place or way to run there as a beginner. One of them just may speak enough English to help ya.
Okay...time for breakfast and plan the rest of my day. Make it wonderful everyone!0 -
Doing what I call mini hike again today, suppose to be sunny all day 70 degrees, just right.
Just a thought about not speaking the same language made me think of my daughter whose husband is in air force. They had 2 yrs in Korea and lived off base because housing wasn't finished.
She said the toddlers played together easy knowing no words the same. She made a few friends just saying a word or two, pointing and smiling. Not easy but like someone said I bet one of them speaks some English.0 -
Hi All, I hit the gym this morning! I'm really starting to see some progress in the clothing department, and even just the diligence of getting up each morning to do something is a breakthrough for me! Also, I'm succeeding thus far on logging food in the evening.
On Jeff Galloway: This has been a great way for me to get back into running, and up my distances more quickly. It works ok for some who are trying to be really fast, but it's amazing for getting the distance in, keeping heartrate lower and avoiding injury. I've never heard that walk breaks make you lose momentum, but my goals aren't usually speed-based, I'm a distance girl! Personally, I've found them helpful in reducing lactic acid buildup (cramps in muscles) and helping me maintain stamina for longer. His theory is that if your workout is 20 min long, you could walk for 10 min straight and run for 10 min straight (if that's the level you're at), or you could walk 1 min run 2 for the whole 20 min. The second way leaves you running more, covering more distance and burning more calories, but with more frequent rest. My breaks have gotten fewer as I've progressed, and many people often "graduate" themselves from walk breaks at a certain point. It may not be for everyone, and I promise not to start pushing my way of doing things on others, but it's been great for me completing my 1st half and training for the 2nd (I'll let you know in July what the improvement is!)
Sherry: My advice would be to walk the hills if they are short enough, because it sounds like they're steep and taking away from the rest of your run, you could add that time in at the end of your run to make up for it, but a bad hill can really mess up a good run, keep those shins healthy!
Liz: yay for running! you can do it welcome to the club!
I wish everyone an amazing day, keep it up and thanks for the continued support!0 -

I didn't get my lifting done this morning because I got in a long overdue chat with my dad. Then, the usual hustle and bustle. Made a cute one-eyed, one-horned, flying, purple people eater on a classroom door at my daughter's school. By the time afternoon and evening rolled around, I just wasn't feeling it... BUT - I did it anyway.
Great job, everyone!0 -
Literally haven't had time to do much of a workout today, so I'll be doing the Trim Thighs...do it Till It Hurts Quickie Workout in Bed with Laurel House. Found on youtube. Good job friends!0
