I was looking into a FitBit originally. But I wanted the wrist band one and could not find one in my area. But I really like the BodyMedia. It keeps me motivated to move more. I like seeing the numbers. I like seeing when I reach the vigorous activities. Its fun to see the little ways I will go a little further. You could get that motivation else where, but I found it with BodyMedia and I love it.

The BMF is alot more accurate than the Fitbit - I know BMF is accurate cuz I've lost weight w/it and have maintained my weight for 2 years while using it. I wore the two together for a couple weeks and the Fitbit recorded at least 30% less calories (kinda depressing) -- even when I manually added (very time consuming) my activity the closest I could get it was between 10-15% less. Most of my daily activity (I take care of 25 cows) during the time I compared the two didn't involve alot of walking - ie cleaning the barn doesn't involve many steps but pitchforking stuff does involve alot fo activity. I think if your activity mostly involves moving your legs than the Fitbit would work okay for you..

So do you eat roughly exactly the same as your bmf says you burn each day for maintenance or take the 10% error off?

The error is average. If they knew it always measured 10% too much, then they would just take that number off. It may under or over calculate depending on the individual and/or what activity you do.

I try to stay between a 150-200 calorie deficit (averages out to between 6 and 8% of my daily calories) cuz I don't log every single bite that goes into my mouth (mostly condiments, small servings of veggies, tastes here/there) nor do I weigh/measure all the time anymore.

Nowhere near Lisa, but I have maintained for over 6 months staying within about 100 calories per day of what BMF says I burn. Some days over, some under.

I have a Fitbit Zip which gives me a much better daily step count but is up to 600 calories per day less than what BMF says I burn. Like Lisa, I find it a pain to input all my workouts, and even when I do, Fitbit is way off my burn. Last week, Fitbit says I burned 13304 calories while inputting all my exercise, even walks that I don't consider exercise (2 mph with the dog, which I also count on MFP because it gives me too few calories, too). I ate 16389. My weight was exactly the same day 1 as day 7.

I bought it because I thouhgt it would give me the best deal in conjunction with my smart phone. Plus I like that it looks at my sleep. Sleep can effect your weight too. So far, I love mine!

I bought FitBit first. When I took it home, it wouldn't sync to my Macbook Pro. I went to the store, and they couldn't get it to work either, We tried a second FitBit incase the other one was faulty. The problem still existed. Others I've talked to haven't had this issue, but it was so frustrating that I'll never attempt purchasing from FitBit again.

Then I discovered BodyMedia and fell in love. It's even better than what FitBit offers! It tracks much more and with better accuracy, such as calories in and out, steps, amount of sleep vs. just laying down, etc. It uses science to calculate the data, whereas the FitBit using Wii technology. So, the FitBit is more like a pedometer, in my opinion. BodyMedia tracks everything, even when you are just sitting at your desk burning a small amount of calories.

I've used my BodyMedia for almost two months now. It's helped me tremendously stay motivated and lose weight. My first week, I lost 7 lbs with it! Here is a demo of everything it tracks: http://www.bodymedia.com/Products/Learn-More/How-it-works

I use MyFitnessPal to track my food and BodyMedia to track my exercise and sleep. BodyMedia offers a food database to track food, but I find that MyFitnessPal is much better. You can sync both accounts together so that the food and exercise display the same numbers on both sites.

You can sync your BodyMedia data with reward sites such as EarndIt and EveryMove. For so much exercise, you gain points. Then you use these points to get rewards (healthy food, exercise items, charity donations, etc). These sites also work with FitBit.

The only downfall about BodyMedia is it's an ugly grey armband, while the FitBit is a cute little device that can be hidden in a pocket. The BodyMedia device can be hidden under the sleeve of a shirt. I wish it was more attractive!

Overall, I recommend BodyMedia and feel like it would really help you lose weight. :)
