I've been eating 1800 calories for maybe two weeks now (up from 1750, not a huge difference, but that was up from 1450) and I have gained two pounds. I miraculously lost three about two weeks ago (weird) and though I haven't added the increase in weight to my ticker (discouraged!) I know it's there. I'm...frustrated. My TDEE is about 2160, so I'm right at a 20% cut, but I just feel gross. The last measurements I took were a total of two inches lost, which isn't bad, but it's not enough. I've been at this for years, and only this year on MFP, with really no progress. Should I cut more?

Please be patient. Your body will need time to adjust to your new intake. If you are anxious about weight gain, take a couple of weeks at each new calorie level, but continue adding 100 calories to your daily intake every week until you have gotten to TDEE and your weight has stabilized. THEN cut your calories. Repairing your metabolism doesn't happen over night, and this is NOT a quick fix for weight loss. This is a long, slow, PERMANENT fix to diet mentality. But it will take time. What kind of exercise are you doing?

I was doing my own combination of cardio (bike), lifting and whatever else I could make the time for, in my basement. Then in March I started 30 Day Shred, and did that while also doing my other exercises, afterward. It burns a lot of calories and makes me feel great. Right now I'm on week two of Ripped in 30, and am still adding in exercises after the 30 minute video is over: bike, lifting, crunches, more squats, etc. My fiance and I take walks on weekends, and next month I am starting outside running, to train for Warrior Dash. I have been patient for so long, man...but I will wait!

Good LORD, woman! If you are doing that much exercise on a weekly basis, I do not doubt that you need more calories. I do 3 work outs with heavy weights every week (40 min) and a bit of walking here and there and I eat 1800-2000 calories per day - and I am maintaining my weight with a seriously damaged metabolism.

If your body is starving, it will cling to every calorie it can get. You need to feed it enough that it will be comfortable WASTING calories - IE letting you lose weight. If you're having trouble eating enough calories to hit your TDEE, I suggest reducing your cardio significantly so as to reduce the amount you need to eat in order to keep your body fueled.

Believe me, I could get up to my TDEE. Oh yes. But I am also on the Pill, and I hold water weight like it's my friggin job (which is at a desk, hah!) so I don't know if I really want to test my body like that. I am getting married in four months, and going to Italy in 5, and I want to be the best I can be. You think upping to 1850 might be good?

I agree. You may need a diet break and depending on how much body fat you have to lose your deficit may be too big. Try a 15% deficit.

I just used an online calculator and it came out to 37%. But the one I did at home two weeks ago said 28. So a little weird. I don't know what body fat percentage I should be at, but whatever it is, I just want to look and be healthy, you know? I'm trying to get to my first goal of 150 pounds, but I'm stuck at 160.
