Taste of metal

I was wondering if this is something that has happened to other paleo/primal people, or maybe if it's something that I'm doing wrong that's causing it. For the past month or so ever since I truly cleaned up my diet, sometimes I feel a metal taste in my mouth. Not strong like if you've ever accidentally chewed on a piece of metal, but it's there. I also notice it more around my teeth, like if I lick them. It doesn't hurt but it's definitely uncomfortable. I heard this can happen if you're consuming a lot of iron? I don't know if this is caused by certain types of food you're eating or if it's something completely unrelated....any advice would be appreciated. Also I should mention that my teeth ache when this happens.

You might be in ketosis. When I get into ketosis I get a metalicy taste at times.

yup that sounds exactly like what is going on. Also your body is probably processing and absorbing the metal nutrients well for the first time in a while - you just might not be used to it.

(A convert reported to me how her urine changed color dramatically to clear) - this was because her diet was SO BAD she wasn't absorbing any single mineral in the crap food she was eating, in addition to her supplements that the dr's kept giving her (not realizing her bodies ability to absorb them was NIL at the time.

Keep up the good work and you will be amazed.

Cool! Thanks guys for the advice. Umm... now time for a stupid question, but how else would I know if I'm in ketosis?

Speaking from my experience, I get more energy and clarity. Some people get not so great smelling breath and sweat. If want to make sure you are indeed in ketosis there are ketone strips that you can pick up from the store. I personally haven't used them before. If you are falling below 50 net carbs consistently, you probably will be in ketosis.

One thing I forgot- appetite and cravings are really minimal in ketosis too.

That's one thing I've noticed, my appetite has vanished except for days when I don't eat breakfast. I do exercise frequently so I eat a lot of sweet potatoes and bananas, I think I average around 50-70 g of carbs on a good day, but I haven't posted in my diary in weeks, due to lack of appetite.

I got a metallic taste as well, but it was almost refreshing (like in a clean way), not uncomfortabel or achey. Interesting how everyone experiences different but similar things.

I wish it felt refreshing haha. Even right now as I type this I can sort of taste it- my teeth also feel more sensitive than usual, like I just used whitening strips for the first time, with a metallic aftertaste.
