What would be a recommended snack if you have a MASSIVE calorie burn, and are WAAAAY over on carbs? I pulled a stupid today and didn't take a snack when I went to school, figuring I'd be home in time to eat a "safe" lunch. But, breakfast wore off before I got out of class, and the only thing I could get was a smoothie from the Freshens stand in the cafeteria (Yes, it was suicide by carbs!).
Because of my swim, and then weeding mom's flower beds I am/was netting in the negative numbers, and I know/knew dinner wouldn't make up for that. But, before dinner time I started getting nauseous from hunger pains. Tried some nuts, helped some with the negative net, but didn't satisfy.
Today is probably a wash, but for future reference, I'm looking for ideas! Help!

I'd like to know the answer to this as well, as it's happened to me a few times. Peanut butter? Peanut butter on apple? Now I'm just making myself hungry.0

::Laughs:: If I wasn't so close to my daily max carbs, that might be a good idea. But, today, I'm actually about 13 g OVER my daily max. Dinner is going to be interesting.0 -
any kind of meat and cheese is good snack and low carbs... (pepperoni stick, piece of salami, etc, deli turkey breast on lettuce leaves (as bread).0

Thanks for mentioning the lettuce! Almost forgot the cabbage leaf "buns" for the hot dogs tonight. And, I'm still ears for other ideas!0

While meat and cheese are good low-carb choices, too much protein can raise blood glucose, albeit not att he same rate as carbs.. How about a fat bomb?

I skip the honey and add some liquid sucralose (EZ-Sweet)
There are lots of other recipes out there, especially on paleo/primal sites0 -
Bullet proof coffee. Plus eggs if you're not too far over on protein. Or, my personal favorite... a lot of bacon with mayo.0

@ Laura - what is bullet proof coffee? I love the smell of it, but the taste usually turns me off. But, this one sounds kind of interesting.
@ KD - Didn't know about the protein giving you a bs spike. YIKES! ::Looks at my nuts and cringes:: Maybe these weren't such a good idea after all!0 -
Thanks Laura, that looks interesting enough to try!0

The rise from protein is much slower - I think about 50% of protein converts to glucose? Nuts are a nice choice, but I can't have more than 1-2 servigns per day as the carbs start to add up. Thanks to Laura, though, I'm having a bacon, mayo and lettuce feast right now :-) i do love fat bombs and bulletproof coffee though - decadent and delicious0 -
@ KD - Yeah, I found out about the carbs in my nuts this morning when I couldn't figure out what had happened. I saw the carb count last night before I logged them, and it didn't even register to look at that number AFTER I logged them. OWWIE!!! I'm just glad things settled down so quickly!
I'm going to have to hit the store and get the ingredients for the coffee and fat bombs. The coffee looks intriguing, and the fat bombs look like the answer to my exercise/calorie nightmares!0
