My advice is to buy fresh items. Avoid anything that comes in a box altogether - you don't need it. Fresh fruits, veggies, and meats. Cook all of your foods. I would make an exception for condiments and canned or tuna in a pouch as a convenience food item. Maybe some granola or protein bars if they are low in sugars.

It's easier to shop this way than one might think!

    bulk?
We buy $15.00 worth of chicken breasts at Sam's Club - they are huge.. we grill some to use for salads, etc and then use the rest for other chicken meals - this week I mad chicken taco stuffing in the crockpot and then portioned it out - 3 breasts made a ton!

also, as said before, buy fresh - lean meats - supplement/add vegetables and you will be more full without the cost!
