Lower leg pain?

I've started having what I thought was a bit of stiffness on the lower back of my leg, above the heel but below the calf muscle but today its a full on pain when I walk, especially when I turn suddenly or use that leg to push off when stepping up or down. It doesn't ache when not in use, just moving. I've had trouble with my feet and ankle tendonitis in the past but both have been really good lately so I'm worried that this will sideline me from c25k. Anyone else have this issue? or know what it might be?

I am not an expert and not a physician, but it sounds connected to calf. The muscles on the soles of your feet connect to your calves, and run the whole length of your sole to knee. Different parts can get more aggravated at different times, but they are very interrelated. If you're in a lot of pain for simple stepping or pushing off, I would start with icing. Then heat, stretch and slowly get back into pressure, etc. It may be mild enough that you just need a couple days of rest. Then, as you get back into full swing, stretch your calves really, really well. Perhaps add more walking and stretching (non-static) to warm up and some longer walking and static stretching to cool down.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have been icing it and last night soaked in a warm bath with epsom salts. I have also been taking ibuprophen. I am going to the doctor tomorrow for something else so I think I'll mention it to her.

It felt a lot better today so i did day 1 of week 5 and now tonights its aching a bit again so I've got the ice on it, which does help. It sort of feels like a shin splint, but more to the back of the leg.

I wonder if you're pronating on that side (rolling in to the arch)?

I do roll my ankles inward and have had a lot of issues due to it in the past but I bought some inserts that support my arches which helped hugely with that. I think that I need to have professional orthotics made though, the ones I have are called Walkfit & have been a God send but I think I need a more customized fit.

I asked my doctor about the leg pain yesterday & she wasn't concerned, said its just soft tissue, and just to ice it & rest it a bit, typical RICE advice, which I have been doing & it is helping. She said she could send me to physio but doesn't think we're there yet. I think I just need to rest it for a while, unfortunately thats going to sideline my progress with C25k which is a bummer. BUt better to stop for a week then to have to stop for good.
