Bingeing is ruining me & family doesn't understand! (vent)

My binge eating started 3 years ago, and it went on for a good 2 years. Last year I started excersing and making switches to my eating habits (no eating after 7pm, no junk food, etc.). This worked great for me! I mange to lose 20lbs and two pant sizes without even wanting to lose weight. I felt so happy and confident in myself. Unfortunately, since the end of December (winter break) I've fallen off track. February, March, and April have been complete binge months. I can't control myself and it's frustrating! Before I was able to go by unhealthy foods in my house and not want to devour them in one sitting. Every day I tell myself I won't binge, but I always manage to overest due to stress, boredom, etc. School is very stressful for me right now (I have so many essays and assignment that need to be completed before school ends in less than 2 months), and it's not like I can go for a walk or do something help to alleviate my stress because I need to be doing my schoolwork. That's why I turn to eating to comfort myself while still doing my work at the same time. That's why the suggestions of do something else to redue your stress don't work for me. I told my mom one night about my situation, but she shook it off and told me just to "be strong". I also asked her if she could not buy trigger foods or hide them atleast if they must be in the house, but she not very sympathetic towards my binge eating. She buys bags of chips and other junk food knowing darn well that I am the only one who will eat them;No one else in my family even touches the food, and if it weren't for me they would probably expire. I tell her not buy the food but she always comes up with "they were on sale", or "you dont have to eat them".Also, she doesnt buy just one or two bags/boxes but more like 6+. I just feel sometimes that she is sabatoging me. I already gained 12lbs and almost all the inches I lost in these four months. I'm trying to do Insanity right now but every time I feel like what's the point if I'm ****ing up my eating. Initially, I started it on April 1st, but the fifth day something came up and I couldn't do Insanity that day which made me feel like i messed it up so might as well just binge (this bingeing has continued on). I started doing it again last week but I have had 3 binges that week; today (yesterday) being a big binge. I'm going to try not bingeing this week and trying to stay clean May, but I have attempted this so many times and failed.

well you found a great place to vent.
i know how you feel. binge eating sucks. it feels really hopeless sometimes, but i find the fellowship here is helping me a lot.
join the binge challenge (post at the top) and see how long you can go and try to do the best you can. if you have a binge day, just start again. DON'T QUIT.
you are not going to get better overnight, so keep coming back and TRY!
add me as a friend if you want. :flowerforyou:0 -
The key here is to get into the mindset of 'my mother keeps buying all this food. She is trying to make things difficult for me. I will prove to her that I can ignore that food, and she can watch it all go out of date and go to waste'.
Is there any way you can buy in your own healthy snacks? I often eat raw carrots with houmous, fruits, hard boiled eggs and greek yoghurt as snacks. Sure, you need to do your work, but maybe take a break every hour or so to go for a walk, or have a hot bath, or do something non work related for 15 minutes or so, to break it up.
Try and pause before you start heading for the food, and think 'am I hungry?'. Really analyse it, listen to your stomach, and ask yourself if you are genuinely, tummy rumbling hungry. Sometimes, if you do this often enough, it sets off a pattern of learning to ignore those mental cravings. Also remember that you won't be doing this studying forever and when it is over and you have done your exams, you will be able to really focus on dealing with this problem.
Another option is to try intermittent fasting where you only eat within a certain time frame. If you set your mind to it, and take it on as a challenge, it can sometimes help. Try getting a hot drink each time you feel like going for the junk food. Even if it is low calorie hot chocolate to sip, it might be calories, but it will be less calories than a binge.0 -
Dont forget to take it one day at a time! Rome wasn't built in a day. It is an awesome goal to do well all month, but don't be too hard on yourself if you have a bad day (or week). Keep encouraging yourself and remember to make exercise a priority too. All of those good endorphins help to keep you happy too:) You'll be a better student if you are a happy and healthy person.
Hope you have a great day!0
