Welcome to the group. I know it's difficult to get the carbs down so just make some small adjustments, substituting more low or no carb choices over time. You'll make it. I still want to cut back more but I find I rarely eat some of the things that I used to "live on" and I don't miss them anymore. But congratulations on making the choice to work on what you know isn't good for you.

In the beginning everything is hard -- you will get the hang of it, there are a lot of things you can use in place of carbs, spaghetti squash can be used in place of spaghetti, cauliflower can be used for potatoes, you'll figure it out!

    good luck

    Hi claymic,

I commend you for your honesty along with your decision in taking responsibility for you health. It's a great first step you've made. It's these small steps of success we take, not perfection that help us to finish the race. The My Fitness Pal program is a wonderful tool to help you track carbs and the foods you eat. When using this program honestly in conjunction with your blood sugar meter, you'll quickly learn how certain carbs and other foods effect your numbers, by testing before and 2hrs after each meal.

I know all too well and empathize with your current emotional and binge eating habits. There was a point in my past as an unhealthy T2 diabetic since 1982, and at 275 pounds, with an A1C of 14.0 at the time, I new I had to overcome those unhealthy eating habits as you describe to help me prevent the complications of uncontrolled blood sugars. If I can break that vicious cycle, I have faith in you, that you can too!

You've decided to join a very supportive, understanding and knowledgeable group of others here eager to share their experiences with this condition we share with what works for us individually and what doesn't work so well on this journey.

Have a poke around the many threads and ask questions.

Best of health to you claymic, and good luck!

Yeah, I so hear you. I love my carbs. Lay on the Italian bread and butter. Not just one piece either.

Sorry, there's nothing easy about this. But it is possible, and like others have said, you'll get the hang of it. Just be gentle with yourself along the way for hard, emotional days. The more gentle and loving you can be with yourself, the better. It's so much easier to ride out the emotional side of this when we're our best, most nurturing, allies.

MFP also has an OA, overeaters anonymous, group. You may want to check it out as well as here. There's a few of us that are a part of both, and I find them both very helpful. Good luck to you!
