One of my friends posted this on FB and I about fell out of my chair. At $8 per loaf, it's a bit pricey, but what a treat!!!

Oh, hate to burst your bubble, but...
It's not that good. I dare say it's quite bad actually. I really wanted to like it, but the taste and texture is just off. It in no way recreates the feeling that you're eating bread, rather a bland, grainy "bread-like substance". It doesn't toast well, either.
If you're really jonesing for a bread fix, try a recipe from elenaspantry.com. Rumor has it, her bread recipes are the best around.0 -
There are several good paleo bread recipes out there, some of it is just learning to use Almond and Coconut flour. I had delicious stuffing with flax seed meal and coconut flour, which is a bit grainy due to the flax seed, but it was delicious with celery and onion.

I have often subscribed to the whole9 theory of not paleo-izing bad food choices. They become crutches rather than treats. If I want a treat, it is going to be a sugar filled dessert (wheat-less) or a bottle of wine (yes I said bottle)
I bought some of the gluten free bread mixes - they sit on the shelf because I can't figure out what to do with them. Bread is just the last thing on my mind these days.0 -
Oh well... darn! I live at 6834 feet above sea level (very high altitude) so baking tends to be difficult under normal circumstances much less trying to figure out baking with weird substances - regardless of how good a recipe is. The only thing I've tried to bake (pre-paleo) came out horrid due to the altitude.
I was kind of hoping for something to toss in the freezer for when I wanted some toast to go with an egg (not common, but would be a nice treat).0 -
Hmmm my problem would be that my brain would think it was bread, my mind would shut off any addiction would kick in, I would eat the whole loaf and then go binge on other wheat products:embarassed:0

Trust me, you won't want to eat the entire loaf. It tastes pretty bad. After 1 bite you'll think "Nah, I'm good".
And I agree, trying to paleo-ize SAD foods is not the best, so I try to avoid it as much as possible. I don't miss bread as much as I long for other foods (cupcakes, my love), but I thought it'd do for toast every once in a blue moon. But as the Whole 30 people describe it, "It's like sex with your pants on. It's alright, but it'll never be as good as the real thing". And then you'll just be missing the real thing.0 -
I just bought a loaf last week... and it's kind of okay. It's definitely not like bread. It's very dry and the flavor is a little off. It's tolerable if you toast it (and you have to toast it a LONG time to get it crisp), it's not awful. What I like about it is that it really fills me up! I've been having one slice as a morning snack with some grass-fed butter.
It doesn't make me crave bread though... it's not enough like regular bread to do that, in my opinion.0 -
The coconut bread is more tolerable than the almond, and it's super filling. Honestly, it's what works for you. Cooking didn't happen last week and is unlikely to happen most of this week, so processed paleo is what I'm going with (there's an ish on the end of paleo, as I subscribe to the 80/20 rule of thumb).
And yes, I have two slices of bread and some almond butter in the fridge waiting for me for dinner.
As for missing the real thing, I really don't-- this is a good enough analog and gets me by when the rest of my life has a whole lot going on. Which come to think of it, is how I treated PB&J sandwiches before-- something to get me by.0 -
I've heard all the negative comments about it but I'll still buy it eventually just to try it out someday. I've already decided that when I reach my goal bodyfat%/weight, I'm going to plan a massive binge day just for fun. Not necessarily a binge of non-paleo foods, just all the really good stuff you shouldn't eat a lot of. Like, I imagine I'll get a loaf of this coconut bread and a jar of almond butter and just go crazy. Dark chocolate and wine will likely make an appearance as well.
It's going to be completely shameful day. I can hardly wait. lol0 -
oops, dark chocolate and wine are almost daily for me now.0

It was for me for awhile too, Mike. I've got three Spartan races this summer and want to get down to fighting-weight, so, I've really clamped down. Once I'm in shape, I'll probably be back to wine and chocolate on regular occasion again. I do miss it.0 -

I like your way of thinking. That was the whole problem with weight watchers. You could give in to any craving as long as you kept to you point. As someone with an eating disorder this is a disaster. If I give in to a craving for a food that is a trigger for me I will binge regardless of the consequences and then hate myself later. So I agree that you shouldn't try to make something you shouldn't be eating healthy. It's a slippery slope and usually isn't very tasty. By the way. How damaging is a whole bottle of wine.0

i like your style!
i keep the food pretty whole + simple, not too far off a whole30 concept, but when i splurge it's going to be worth it - like last night's bottle of red. and gelato.
totally thought i would miss bread much more than i do, but 2 months without and i couldn't care less.
it's liberating, really.0
