How far are newbie gains supposed to go?

I've been lifting for a year now, and here's what I've seen happen:

Starting weights:

Bench: 180
Deadlift: 350
Squat: 350

Current PRs:

Bench: 275
Deadlift: 565
Squat: 600

Each time I get a new PR, it's not like a 5 or a 10 lbs PR - it's been as big as 40 lbs as of recent attempts. Is this still considered "newbie gains"? How much do most people gain after the newbie run wears off?

You squatted 350 your first time??

Generally speaking, if you're able to add weight to the bar every workout, you're still in the newbie gains phase. I don't know that I've ever seen anyone newb gain their way to a 600 lbs squat, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've got a few years of Highland Games and kung fu (and a childhood of summers on a farm) under my belt, so major muscle strength was already built up a bit. It was form and the supporting muscles that was stopping me. Once I got the form down, the numbers started jumping.

I'm more interested to know if gains will slow down to 5 lbs a month or less, or should I expect something like 10 lbs a month?

It's hard to say man. Your starting strength is better than most newbie gains when they plateau I would say. How do you train now?

2-3 times a week, going for a 7-5-3-1-1... routine, with the first single being 70-75% of my max. For example, today's squats was:

    7 x 135
    5 x 295
    3 x 365
    1 x 455
1 x 545 - this is where I usually stop unless it comes up too easy, then I go one more
1 x 610 (didn't go below parallel, just made it to)

After I do my big lift of the day, then I go do some other stuff - today was a back day:

    3 x 5 x 225 deadlift
    3 x 5 x 225 straight leg deadlift
    3 x 10 - back extensions

New territory, take it to the limit. Don't question the gift brotha, just accept it and thank the iron gods, lol. Your legs are stronger than your back by your lifts. My back is stronger than my legs(bad knees).

    Bench 380
    Squat 450
    Deadlift 480 -500

Been back in it for a little over a year. Body weight is 30 lbs. lower that when I use to power lift. Hoping to get down to 230 lbs and
lift what I did back in the day.
