..who can't listen to music when I run? Everytime I have listened to music while I run it actually interrupts my thought process and I wind up screwing up for some stupid reason. I find it a lot more beneficial to run and just talk myself through the tough intervals. Am I weird?

    No.

A lot of people find that music takes them out of the situation and makes the run easier by being able to concentrate on something else. However, I didn't play music at all until week 7, when I found myself bored by doing nothing but running for 30 minutes. I don't carry anything at all when I do speed intervals at a track and I don't listen to music on trail runs. City streets or the treadmill and I've got to have tunes to make it.

I one of those who is split. When by myself, I have to have music. It helps with my running and pulling my mind away into my thought process. Believe it or not, this has a lot to do with the type of learner you are. I am one of those people who has to have several things going on at once to grasp the concept. So I have music, I am looking around, I am watching birds, etc....

But, you are not the only one who doesn't run with music. My cousins, the ones who are the marathoners don't do music. And how they dont' do music on their 100 mile ultras I have no clue, yes I am jealous .

On my Tuesday & Thursday runs I run alone in the neighborhood so I really need some good music to take my mind off looking at the same houses over and over again. On the weekends I go out with my wife and run someplace different, usually a trail or a greenway path, and I don't listen to music so I can hear anyone coming up behind or just listen to nature. Occasionally someone gets mugged or attacked on greenways around Atlanta so it's good to have all your senses alert.
