I have jumped back on the low carb bandwagon after about 10 years. I have well over 200 lbs to loose. I am trying to adjust my food tracker to track the way I need to eat doing low carb. What percentages do I need to input into carbs, fat, and protein. I put 20% carbs, 30% fat and 50% protein. Does that sound about right? I am not following any particular plan though I am using Atkins as a guideline. Just trying to stay below 60 net carbs per day.

It depends what you are trying to do. I try to maintain a healthy and controlled state of dietary ketosis.

My settings are currently at Carbohydrates 15% Protein 25% Fat 60%

    From the reddit keto FAQ

"Is more protein than fat OK?

One of the importance of keeping a proper ratio is ensuring that your protein levels do not exceed that of fat in calories, not weight. The reason for this is that protein in excessive levels act very closely to carbohydrates. They are broken down and converted into glucose, spiking your blood sugar and causing insulin to secrete and patrol."

The most important thing is that no matter what you do be sure to continue researching as much as possible for yourself and consult with a doctor if you need to as most of us here can answer questions as to why we do what we do, but are not medical professionals.

I hope this helps! Best wishes!

I agree with Kyanca. You want your fat percentage to be higher than protein. I am not in constant ketosis (although I am thinking of trying it as it has been impossible for me to drop pounds lately) but my Macros are set at 15% carbs, 35% protein, 50% fat. I aim for about 50 net and the only thing I subtract is fiber, not sugar alcohols or anything like that.

Thanks for the advice! I will adjust my percentages. I thought it was suppose to be more protein, guess I need to research more.
  • I used this calculator to setup my daily amounts.

Obviously just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for others but since sticking to levels (religiously) this calc provided my fat loss has been amazingly consistent.

    I use this calculator: http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/

I follow a ketogenic diet to help keep me in nutritional ketosis as well as keep my Type 2 Diabetes under control. My percentages are set at 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbs.

Read a lot and ask a lot of questions and try things out for yourself. The very best way of knowing what works for you is trial and error. You'll find lots of supportive people on this forum, I know I have! Good luck!
