Introducing cheese back into your diet

I've been 'paleo' for almost 4 months now, and eating a more strict version of paleo for about 3 to see what was causing some stomach issues I was having. For the past few weeks I've been slowly eating cheese again for the fat content (I used to be obsessed with cheese and could eat it right out of the package). I was just curious to see if anyone else has done this and how it effected them, of course it means I would be taking a more primal approach and not so much paleo anymore. I still refuse to drink milk or eat any other form of dairy besides cheese (I don't like yogurt or milk). Do you eat cheese or do you avoid all forms of dairy in general? Has eating dairy again caused you any ill-effects in regards to health or weight gain?

Also, to anyone that does eat cheese, what kind do you recommend? I recently bought 'grass-fed from New Zealand' sharp cheddar that I haven't tried yet but plan on eating that with my eggs. I also love some feta cheese in my salads. Are some cheeses 'more' primal than others? Obviously I won't be going to the store and buying packages of Kraft. Trader Joe's does have a very small selection of aged cheeses that I'd try.

I eat a TON of cheese to meet my calorie needs and keep my carbs lower (plus its way cheaper and tastier than more chicken...)

i did super strict paleo for 3 months and reintroduced it with no ill effects so now i probably eat 3 ounces a day. I try to stick with grassfed cheeses, but when i can't afford it i make sure i at least purchase r-Bst free cheese. I also do like yogurt and allow myself one serving of full fat greek yogurt a day. so only cheese and yogurt.

i am from vermont... i grew up on cabot seriously sharp cheddar cheese, removing that is guaranteeing a fail :)

I'm so glad to hear that, since cheese is the one thing I don't think I could ever give up entirely. I cut it out when I first tried paleo but quickly went primal instead just so I could have some cheese, lol. I won't eat just any kind of cheese, however...grass fed, full fat is the bomb. I could happily live in VT, Ireland, or NZ just for the cheese.

I had some ill effects when I re-introduced cheese, mucus build up was the main issue.I have been eating it but seem to tolerate goat, and grass fed best.
I have done some research on this and from what I have read hard aged cheeses are the best as there is less lactose.

I try to stay away from cow dairy completely and when I do use cheese (some recipes just need it) I stick with goat- and sheep-milk cheeses. Since you have access to a Trader Joes, they have several goat/sheep cheeses (gouda, cheddar, etc) that are high-quality.
