Setting Calories for Induction

Hi there. Today is my first day of Induction. I have done Induction 3 times before and it worked. I went off of Atkins and started doing hCG, which I lost most of my weight on, but decided the diet was too strict, couldn't maintain the strictness of it and decided to come back to Atkins. Which my husband also LOVES. BUT and here is the fun thing. I think that doing the hCG changed my endocrine system, causing it to be real difficult to lose if I do not do hCG. I am going to test this starting today. I am on track for 20 grams and have done well with exercise, water and food today. But I wonder what do you all set your calories to? What % fat and protein? I have heard more fat to protein is best. What do you all do. I have cals set to 1200 but know that there is no way that I can do Atkins and maintain that. My Avacado and Tri tip kill all that :P

Hi and Happy Induction. In the early phase, I wouldn't worry too much about counting cals, just focus on getting enough carbs (from veggies), and eating enough fat. I consume a higher percentage of fat, about 50-70%, which I believe to be the key in losing weight on Atkins. I eat the meat w/fat, avocado, cream cheese, etc..As far as protein, I eat about 120-150g, but the rule of thumb is 1g per pound of body weight. However, you should experiment to see what does your body good because what works for me may not work for you.

CoCoMa, so you eat a gram of protein for every pound you weigh? Oh my I am not sure I could do that....I have mine set to 65% fat and 35% protein, the rest in carbs. I think that is how I did it. And then I set my cals to 1500 just to see how it goes. The reason I am setting cals is I have a tendency to overdue ANYTHING. Hence the reason I am where I am. Thanks for the info!~!!

Oh no, I don't eat a gram of protein for every pound, I was simply stating the rule of thumb. I consume typically 120g at the lowest, and 150g at the highest. I do have a friend who is in to serious lifting who goes that distance though. I don't think there is necessarily a standard for the "average" person, so see what works for you. Counting cals isn't a problem, it's just not necessary in phase 1. Because LC foods are typically high in cals, especially with higher fats, you shouldn't set your cals too low because you will be setting yourself up to fail. I believe that most of us are where we are not because of too many cals per se, but because we’ve been putting unhealthy foods in our bodies to “fuel” them.
