Really, Jillian? 5 lbs a week?

In workout three she says she designed this not so you could lose 1-2 lbs a week, but more like 5 lbs a week, crazy numbers.

For WHOM, Jillian, the morbidly obese? Maybe. I have between 50 and 55 lbs to lose and I am losing slightly over 1 lb a week on a 1200 calorie CLEAN diet.

Don't get me wrong, I love the workouts and they are definitely changing my body for the better, but I saw faster weight loss when I was on the elliptical 4x a week for an hour at a time.

Her 30 Day Shred advertises up to a 20 lb weight loss in a month. Again, I have to ask, who is getting these results other than people with a severe amount of weight to lose in the first place?

I think she's a great trainer, but the weight loss claims are annoying me.

I lost 15 pounds in 31 days on the 30 day shred.

I averaged 2.5 pounds per week on Body Revolution.

How much weight did you have to lose? Did you do anything else aside from the programs?

I'm in week 4 and I've lost 5lbs total in phase 1 haha

I'm not following her diet plan though; I'm eating according to my TDEE

    I just ignore those claims

I averaged 1.5 pound loss per week but I didn't eat her recommended low diet cause I would have punched someone in the face without more food!

She makes outrageous claims but can legally do it by saying things like "up to". Is it realistic? No. But, it may be plausible for someone who has A LOT to lose like the people on BL and the people who are satisfied eating air. I just like her stuff because it gives me an overall workout in a feasible amount of time. :)

I always laugh at the claims she makes in JMBR. I'm not losing anything crazy, but then again, I didn't do the kickstart either.

Yea, I think it would only happen for people who are morbidly obese. I have not lost any weight and I am finishing up levels 5 and 6, but I have definitely lost inches so I am happy.

I did kickstart and lost 5lbs but since then I have gained it and a pound back. I am on Phase 3. My arms are toned and my belly is shrinking ever so slowly. I feel like a bad *kitten*. I haven't loss weight but friends say it looks like I have dropped "lots of weight". I try to eat healthy and within the 1200 calories but I have screwed up more times than I would like to mention. I recently changed to eating 15% of TDEE-if I am not losing I might as well be eating more, IMHO.

Jillian's got to sell her dvd's somehow I suppose, but it's more than a little frustrating to hear it when you are working your booty off and not getting the results she speaks of.

I've done Jillian's videos exclusively and am very close to my goals.
I lost 12 pounds and 22 inches after 30 days on the Shred--will take the inches over pounds any day!
Her claims don't bother me...I was overweight for over 20 years and this is the first time I was ever able to meet my goals. And I was able to do it on 30-40 minutes a day.
    Good luck everyone!

Jillian says BR was based on Biggest Loser workouts, so I think those claims are targeted toward people with 100 pounds plus to lose. The workouts are making a big difference to me and my hubby. I haven't been able to lose weight for so long due to raising kids and working fulltime. The 30 minute duration makes it doable.

On JMBR, I lost an average of 2.5 lbs a week (which is half of the claim) and I think I did DANG good on this program! I feel like I've lost twice that! lol.... I'm not worried about the claims and rarely listen because it has a lot to do with where you start and how hard you work AND your diet.

My thought as I was reading this was tho - would the morbidly obese be able to do most of this (I suppose w/modifications), but I was just 'overweight' and thought I was dying at times - lol

Either way - It worked well for me and I will be repeating! :)

That amused me too :) I've lost MAYBE 3 or 4 pounds TOTAL - and I'm in Week 11 - but I also went down a size, so I'll take that.

Yes, REALLY! I lost 17lbs doing the 30 Day Shred last year:) I lost 14 doing 6 Week 6 Pack. It's possible! I didn't lose a lot doing Body Revolution last year, but my eating habits were out of control:/ Did lose some inches though:)

Last year, when I did the JMBR, I lost something like 7 lbs. in the seven weeks I got through before I got sick and lost momentum. However, I lost 22" over my whole body! I actually had a coworker tell me I was getting "cut", even though my weight wasn't dropping.

1200 calories per day is WAY too low for me. I lose better at 1400-1500.

I think the best claims are from people who have done it. Im more excited to start it because of them. I think that most people put on more lean muscle and thats why you dont see pounds shedding that much. Regardless seems great to me. Im starting tomorrow and excited and nervous. lol

I just started Phase 2 on Sunday. I eat about 1200 calories a day. I have only lost 5 pounds and my clothes arent fitting any differently. I have noticed my breasts are getting smaller :ohwell:

I kind of feel that people should understand advertising at this point. My life partner called her out on that, too, and I was annoyed by him! He was like, well you've been doing her 30 Day Shred for 60 days, so shouldn't you be shredded? I could tell how much more fit I was, and that muscles had grown. I had no expectations of being "shredded" after only a month or two of doing her videos. Especially when I started out so soft and flabby. Her workouts are great and effective. For most people the fat won't simply be melting off. It will require time and discipline, but Jillian's workouts do deliver results in an insanely short amount of time per day. It would be silly to be disappointed by not dropping 5 pounds a week. I have been working out with Jillian Michaels videos, including a round of Body Revolution, for nine months. My life partner now marvels at the transformation of my body, and how much more fit I look. I have increased my lean muscle dramatically, while shrinking my waist. My flabby arms are finally starting to look somewhat toned and muscular. I have only lost six pounds.
  • I don't want to start a fight but I am morbidly obsese and in less than a month I have lost 20 lbs following her meal plan and the plan as directed.

Also I have gone out to eat with my family, making smart choices and eaten things that were not so good for me as I would watch it the rest of the day, which is realistic.

I have thyroid problems and am not in any way shape or form ashamed to admit I am bi polar and on meds. I have everything working against me and I am still losing.

I think age is a factor, too. When I was younger I could lose several pounds a week, but now at almost 46, I'm working at the same intensity and happy to lose 1-2 lbs/week max.

    I'm happy to lose 1-2 lbs/week and I'm only 25 :( I hate my metabolism.

I LOVE JMBR because she manages to give me great muscle tone while not getting bulky. And it's fun and I sweat. But at my weight, I burn about 230 calories in half an hour...that does not equal a huge loss. But people also comment on how good I look when I am doing it.

I'm looking to lose 50 pounds and i've lost 20 pounds within the first month and half of doing the JMBR along with following some of the diet plan and also adjusting to my taste. I think these are realistic if you are following the plan. I think it's hard to eat what is exactly on there but thats' what you would have to do if you want the results.

Yes, I hate it when she says that. Loved the program and overall love Jillian, but hate when she says stuff like that. It's unrealistic. The only people who lose 5+ pounds a week are her contestants on biggest loser, and they are being closely supervised by medical professionals (and most of them gain the weight back after the show). Slow, sustainable loss is much better and safer for the majority of people. I have no idea why she would say we should be losing 5 pounds a week - I guarantee 99% of people who do her program aren't losing nearly that much.

I actually gained weight while doing BR, but my measurements decreased so I don't care.

I am currently on my last week of BR. I have 3 more workouts to go. I do not stick to the 1200 calorie diet. I eat according to my MFP calorie requirements. I have not lost one pound however... I have lost 7 total inches. My arms look defined and I can see the resemblance of some upper ab muscles. My legs look toned and my pants are looser for sure. I gave up on the scale a while ago. As long as I am feeling the way that I want to feel, and drenched in sweat after each workout I feel accomplished. I do believe that she references the Biggest Loser in one of her workouts and I believe the 5 lbs a week does indeed refer to much heavier than average people. I say, as long as you feel like you are moving in the right direction, who cares what # you are on a scale! :drinker:
