I don't see a thyroid specialist, I see my family physician, only because he diagnosed me when the specialist did not. But if you are at max with your thyroid medicine, you should get checked by a specialist. Just so that you don't have a goiter or beginnings of Grave's Disease. I understand the frustration of the ups and down's of having a thyroid problem. Thankfully mine has been regulated well over 4 years and I know my body well enough to know if it's going up or down, but I still get my levels checked every 3-6 months...Good Luck:smile:

thx. i have only seem my family dr and my levels are "technically" normal but borderline but i feel terrible. I have asked for my meds to be adjusted for almost a year now and she never wanted to touch them... Since i keep complaining and it's getting worse, she's finally doing something about it. when she upped my meds last may it made a major difference even though it only lasted for 3 months. At least i felt normal for 3 months! other people are telling me it could me a number of other things so now it is nice that it is getting looked at!

Your issues sound like they might actually be something else--there is no way you would notice a difference in thyroid meds THAT fast!

i felt the difference in about a week of taking that new dose and felt great for about 3 months. my levels after that were PERFECT! but after that when i started to feel crappy, my levels went right back where they were borderline but i felt so crappy. I am glad i finally get to see a endo dr to see if it is something else or just my thyroid...

Your symptoms sound very similar to mine-borderline abnormal levels, feeling good for a brief time after starting/increasing meds and then going back to feeling yucky again shortly after. I ended up being diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Switching my diet to low carb has helped some. Good luck to you; hope you get answers and feel better soon.

That's what I'm saying though. The half lives on most thyroid meds is generally at least two weeks, with the chemistry of the drugs not really kicking in until later. Even Armour doesn't produce noticeable effects that quickly, which makes me think something else is at work here.

well what ever it is i sure hope they figure it out, i am TIRED of feeling like this, it's been the worst ever for the last 5.5 years! At least before it was doable to live with but now it's just not.

Have you ever had an ultrasound done on your thyroid, by chance?

I have to disagree. I was off thyroid meds for a few months and within days of being put back on my meds I could tell an amazing difference. I had my thyroid removed and was not on meds and was sleeping 17 hours a day...Within 3 days of being on meds I was able to carry on a normal day. It is different from other meds that typically do take time to work into your system. You body needs this and is basically waiting for it.
