I'm wondering if anyone considers Jillian Michaels' videos strength/resistance training?

I don't know much about her workouts, what are the rep ranges?

It's more cardio with light weights. Some of it has strength building aspects, but I wouldn't call it strength training.

As a beginner, with weak muscle tone, I'm finding it's toning quite a variety of my muscles - my arms, legs and tummy are getting firmer and stronger. So, for me, it's more than simply cardio - cardio exercises never had this effect on me. I am seeing it as a sort of foundational strength training, and am hoping it will help prepare me for future strength training.

I think it is more circuit training because of its mix of cardio and strength training moves. That is how I would record it on MFP.

it depends on what your fitness level. basically if you can do more then no it's not strength training. i would consider it as cardio *for me* but i've also been weight lifting and strength training for years. i'm sure for someone else, lifting those 5-10 pounds would be hard as heck.

Nope...not to me anyways. If you can lift it more than 12 times in a row with good form, it's too light. Nothing wrong with circuit training, but JM DVD workouts are more cardio than anything.

What is it that you really want to know?
    a) is her stuff defined as "strength training"? or
    b) will her workouts increase your strength?

    my answers are:
    a) Based on how I define "strenght training" then I would say no, but then my defintition is probably not correct.
    b) yes when compared to doing nothing, but probably less effectively than pretty much any other type of weight training.
