Hope everyone's doing well  x

Went to the doctors today, and told them there's a chance I could have Hypothyroidism. I let her know all the symptoms I had, such as weight gain, fatigue, aches and pains, lack of concentration, dry skin and memory loss.. After explaining everything, she tried putting me back on Citalopram (Antidepressant I was wrongly put on at the beginning of the year) and basically made me feel like a liar, like I'd made it all up... :grumble: Time to change doctors I think.

I literally demanded a blood test, which I've got tomorrow. So I'll find out within a week or so :ohwell: Is there anything I need to know whilst I wait? Any helpful tips? And will this weight that's just appeared come off? I'm not expecting it to disappear.. I'm just finding it hard to shift :frown:

Was this a general doctor or an Endocrinologist? If not, I would request seeing a specialist. They'll tend to listen and know more about endocrine issues. I was set aside by my old GP and turns out years later he was wrong and now my symptoms are terrible.

And the best thing to do while you wait is just relax the best you can. Research some local doctors about the issue, and the specialists. You will find an understanding doctor, it'll just take time

I see just my general doc but I will be seeing a specialist soon. I still have bad symptoms even though my levels are ok on meds.

The weight doesnt just go away. It takes time, diet and exercise. If you are hypo and require meds dont think for a min it is a diet cure. Most dont get that result.

My advice- You know your body better than anyone. Make them listen. If it comes back normal than really look at what you are doing, eating, sleeping etc. and go from there. If they come back and you are hypo then get started on the meds and hopefully with in 4-8 weeks you can feel normal again. Keep a journal of everything you do and eat. Then you can show the doctor and they can better help you.

I hope all works out for you!

Your symptoms are classic. I bet many in this group have been treated the same way by a dr at some point, sadly. I sure have! Definitely go to an Endo-doc. There are so many variables in finding the right treatment. It's not as simple as just taking a pill.
Best of luck to you! Keep us posted :)

    Hi xSkakura,

    Welcome to the Group.

I was new to this sight in November 2011 after having 1/2 my thyroid removed. I have finally found an Endo. that is caring and listens to me. They're out there. You just have to look. Just remember you hire them. You can fire them.

In the meantime I would like to recommend the following. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/. I have learned so much from reading the information there. It took me awhile to read most of it and absorb it but with the explanations from my Endo it really relates to what we are experiencing.

I wish you luck. Have patience with this. You will eventually sort everything out. Everyone is different. What works for you may not work for another.

Welcome to the group! I hope you find the answers you need.I was lucky that our general doc was a good listener and agreed with me that we should check my thyroid. While you are waiting for your results, take some time to read about how to manage the condition in other ways through diet and exercise. I'm trying to eat as clean as possible, stay away from soy. On days where I feel achy and tired, I do yoga or pilates and I feel better. I've been reading how a gluten free diet can help with symptoms, so I've been reading up on recipes for that. Take care and keep us posted!

    Thanks for the replies :flowerforyou:

Doctor phoned me yesterday and confirmed my Thyroid levels are low. I'm not sure how low, but I'll ask tomorrow as they're phoning me back to give me more information.

Feel free to add me, but just to let you know I've just come out of a 2 year relationship and feeling incredibly down and finding it hard to eat, so I've not logged for the past 2 days..
