Struggle with Weight Loss

Hello,
I have been trying to lose about 10 pounds for over 8 months now and nothing I am doing is working. I am not overweight (119 pounds) and I am 5' 5''. Before I quit smoking (I quit on February 8th, 2012), I was 108 pounds. I would like to get back to this weight. I exercise more than I did before and I eat about the same, but the weight loss just isn't coming. It went down to 114 pounds but then I went on holiday and it bounced back to 119 pounds.
I am really frustrated and need encouragement and ideas. I would like to understand what I am doing wrong.
Please help and thanks to whoever started this group. :-)

I'll be interested in what replies you get, am pretty much the same as you! Got to 55 kilos (121lbs) and can not move the last 2/3kilos no matter what I do!
Have changed my mind a little and am focusing on staying at the same calories (trying to give up sugar and go low bread etc) and doing the same cardio but doing some weights (not that heavy) too and see if I can mix it up a bit!0 -
There are so many factors that could be contributing to this. You could be eating to many simple sugars, not drinking enough water, eating too much sodium, not eating enough.
Remember when it comes to your exercise, that it is your bodies main goal to do the exercises that you do on a regular basis with the least amount of energy expenditure that it can, which also means the least amount of calories burnt. That is how your body becomes efficient. When it come to weight loss you want your body to stay inefficient because that means your still burning high calories and getting the most from your workouts. try not to just stick to cardio as well, make sure you're challenging your body by strength training and maybe throw a little bit of interval training in there to really give it a boost.
Good luck and feel free to add me if you want
Edited to say: Also when training with weights, dont be afraid to pick up some heavy weights. it'll do your body more good than you can imagine. You will not get 'big'. you will not get 'bulky'. you will get toned lean muscle mass and it will look stunning0 -
I have been tracking all the things that you mentioned below as well, but they don't seem to add up. :-( I drink tons on water, low sodium diet, complex carbs, etc. I try to eat a high protein diet. Usually I am successful, but obviously I am not perfect.
I do a wide range of cardio vascular exercises such as ice hockey, the gym (elliptical and weight training), and jogging outside. Any suggestions for another form of exercise that might speed up my weight loss?
I'm gonna try the heavier lifting. I do lift weights about 3 times per week, but I'll add some resistance and see what that gives.
I added you and thanks for the good luck wishes. I really feel discouraged and like I need as much luck as possible.0
