Ladies who have lost, I am 2 weeks post surgery (bypass) and down 20 pounds. I am in a wedding in September (8 months post-op), and have no idea what size I will be by then. Originally I though about a 16, but after reading several posts and blogs, I'm thinking it could be smaller. Any thought or suggestions for me? I'm hoping that since I'll be ordering through David's Bridal that they will work with me.

I am 5'5".
I started at 325 and a size 26 in dresses.
Pre surgery I lost weight and went into a loose 24, but tight 22.
Since surgery I am still in my 22's but they are starting to become lose.

I was 328 (357 was my highest) the morning of surgery - my tops were 5x and jeans size 28.

I am 4 months post op (as of tomorrow) and I know weigh 266 - my tops are 2x/3x and my jeans are size 20.

I would be willing to guess that you'd be down more than a size 16 by the 8 mths post op!

    Good luck!

    (oh, I am 5' 7.5" tall)
  • Since everybody loses at a different pace it seems like it would be impossible to predict where you might be in eight months. Is it absolutely necessary to order your dress this far in advance? Extra alterations later can end up being costly.

I agree with the other ladies. Is it imperative to order this soon? No one can guess what size you will be in 1 month, much less 9. To be safe, I would wait until 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding and be sure to ask many questions about any last minute alterations. I had gastric bypass July 2011 and in 9 months had dropped from a tight size 22 to a very nice size 8. Now I'm in a size 4. Only time will tell.

Congrats on your weight loss and wishing you many NSV's along your journey

I'm not an expert on bridesmaid's dresses. Actually, I know absolutely nothing about them. But I can say with some certainty that whatever size you think you will be at the time of the wedding, you will be smaller. There's a chance that you could get the flower girl in there with you. As others said, put it off for as long as you can, and make sure you can still get alterations done as the date approaches.
  • If it's a common styled dress, I would wait to buy it when you are about a month out. Even then, I would buy it one size smaller. Good luck!
