W5D3 ..... DONE!

OMG I did it! This was by far the toughest and everyone is so correct when saying this is the toughest "mental" run yet. I had talked myself out of running (It's too cold; I'll never be able to finish this; I didn't sleep well last night so I could use the extra snooze). And then finally talked myself back in (If I don't do this I will regret it and it will put me off my training schedule; etc...). So with some encouragement from hubby, I finally got out of bed and got ready to head out. It was 37 degrees here and I freaking still did it.

What a HUGE NSV for me. I have been struggling with the scale for 3 weeks now and this could be the kick in the pants that I needed to keep pushing forward. Trust me when I say, if this 38 year old, overweight woman can do this, you can too!

Congrats - that's awesome! I do my W5D3 run tomorrow morning. It's supposed to be 28° and windy at that time.

Congrats! I did my W5D3 last night. I really can't believe that I kept on going for the whole 20 minutes. It really is a mental challenge. Hopefully going back to the intervals next week will seem 'easy'.

You are all awesome!! You inspire me and give me confidence that I can do this. My turn is tonight. I'm skeptical and nervous and going to give it my all.

I'm supposed to do mine tonight and I'm so scared. The weather here isn't good either, but hopefully it won't be raining. I'm working myself up to prepare for it mentally. Wish me luck!

WTG guys!!! Week 5 is some sort of special kind of hell. But.. it get's better... I promise! Tonight I'll be running 35 minutes for the first time... I can't wait! (that's coming from the girl who hates to sweat, and is afraid of her asthma).

Rednpnk - You can do this! Do you have somewhere that you can go to run indoors if the weather turns bad?
babeinthemoon - Aww thanks! WOW I can't even imagine 35 minutes straight at this point. Great job!

My pace is HORRIBLE though. Do you guys run for time now or are you just trying to get thru the run and will work on time later? I'm thinking that at some point I will have to start trying to make my pace improve. What do you all think?

At this point, I'm watching the speed but not the time (the program is watching the time?). And, if I'm tiring, I slow down. My main goal is to make it through the program. I'll be able to speed up later.
So far, I've only had to slow down the first time we did a 5-minute session and the first time we did the 8-minute session. For subsequent 5- and 8-minute workouts, I could speed up to my regular (still slow) rate.
    I jog at 6.0Km/hr (treadmill...so I can be exact), that's 3.75 miles/hr. When I slow down, I slow to 5.8Km/hr (3.62 miles/hr). If I catch my breath, I go back to 6.0Km/hr.
When I'm on the treadmill and not doing the program, I will jog 2 minutes at a faster speed (6.2-6.4Km/hr) (3.9miles/hr- 4 miles/hr) just to build up my stamina. More than 2 minutes at the faster speed is enough to let me know that I couldn't do the C25K program at that speed. I'll get better in time, though.

Awesome and Congrats! I do my Week 5 Day 3, in about an hour. I have found that my best runs have come from the ones that I didn't want to do and had to "force"/coach myself into doing.

Yesterday, at work we had a Christmas luncheon so my cal intake was high. Usually on Thursday's I just take my dog for a walk after work, because Friday's are my day 3 of that weeks C25k program. Well, I didn't do a light walk, I went for a run. And said I wasn't stopping until I couldn't go. I ended up running for 25mins! Now, I'm kinda scared that my legs will be too worn out for today's run. But, I'm up for the challenge.

    I DID IT!!!
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I don't know when I've listened so hard to music....the words, the instruments, everything about it. I also never concentrated so much on looking out the window and NOT looking down on the treadmill panel. I'm glad that's behind me.

Also, I noticed that our treadmill is set to standard, not metric like I thought it was. So, I'm running at 6.0 miles/hr and walking at 5.3 miles/hr. That makes more sense. I was thinking there was something wrong with the speed I mentioned before. It seemed awfully slow, even for me. :D

Whew! Just got in after doing my W5D3 run. It was 31° and windy but the sun was shining bright. I pushed the run to 25 minutes and set a personal best 5K of 28:14. Got my first race coming up on 1/19. Bring it on!

Thanks! Before I started C25K, I was thinking I would be happy with any time below 30 minutes for that race next month. Now I need to set the bar a little higher. But the race is at Road Atlanta - an auto racing track with some big hills. Next week I am going to start running some of the hills in the neighborhood, so I expect to slow down after running only flatter parts.

W5D3 Done too! Congratulations! I've been doing it on the treadmill inside due to really cold and snowy weather. Got the incline at 1.5 to simulate running outside. I was really pooped at the end but very proud of myself for finishing this week's 20 minute final run. Curious about reading how fast people are running though. I'm on maintenance after losing 40 pounds with MFP and Fitbit, 125 lbs and 61 years old. I am jogging on the treadmill at 4.8mph. Am I just old and slow? Does age or weight make a difference on how fast a person runs on the treadmill?

Great job!! I'm not sure. Maybe one of the treadmill runners can answer that?

I haven't been doing any running/jogging as I had a bad cut on my heel for last few weeks and was up to W5D3 and this afternoon decided to have a go on the treadmill - had thought about going back a couple of weeks but thought I would give it a go. I wasn't able to jog the whole 20 minutes I needed a couple breaks and certainly couldn't do the pace - so will be keeping at this level until I can run the whole 20 minutes - great to see how others are getting it done so I know it can be done!

I had to translate to kms - I am running at best at 7-7.5 km but only for short times - which is a bit slower than what you are currently running at - I also have the incline set at 1.5-3 depending as I have a lot of hills where I live. I am using the treadmill as it is too hot to run outside during the day here (Australia) and I am working nights at present. I was trying to work out what kms I needed to get 2 miles in 20 minutes - which is 6 mph and I would have to run at 9.6km/hr which I have no chance of doing

I am 54 weigh about 220 lbs but at 5'6 have longer legs so I should be able to run faster - height, weight, age, all come into it - but as you practice you get faster - I actually find when running outside my pace may vary but my pace overall is about the same as on the treadmill but outside we never run exactly the same - the treadmill forces us to maintain one pace which is not how most of us really run so it is a bit artificial.

Wow! That is great! I did my W5D2 today yay!. 8 mins at a Stretch was intimidating at first. But, with the good music, I was able to cruise thru it (at 5.5mph). I just wanted to prove to myself that I can totally do this... Can't wait to do W5D3 and catch-up with you folks.
    Cheers to C25K and MFP!

Aussie, hope that foot heals up for you! I have decided that I'm really not going to stress about pace (even though today, yes, I still looked and it was DREADFUL - 17m30s) and that I will figure all that out when I am regularly running distance and try to work on my timing from there.

Shimmer, great job on the 8 min a pop!

Today was W6D3 for me and it um, didn't quite go as expected. I did manage to get my 25 minutes in but it wasn't at one time. I had to make an emergency run back to the house for a bathroom visit. :( Once I got back on the road, I had roughly 16m45s to finish and I thought that I really wanted to try to squeeze a mile in just to see what that pace was. My C25K timer when off but I still had less than .10 of a mile left so I opted to run it out and make a solid mile.

So I guess in essence D3 is technically finished. It just didn't quite go as I had hoped it would. Onto Week 7 I suppose! Good luck to everyone doing runs this weekend!

We all have dreadful days. But then they just make hte next run that much better.

Tommorow is supposed to be low 30's and 80% chance of snow. Sunday is no snow, but only 27 degrees. Whichever day I go out, I will be running W9D3 this weekend. Phew. Never thought I'd be here. I will start Bridge to 10k for the New year. I've done 2 5k's so far. Long term goal is a 10 mile race at Disney World in September.

Great job everyone! Good luck to all our future successes.

So great to read about everyone's success with week 5. I've been doing each week for 2 weeks and I'm currently on my second week of week 4. I was considering doing it again, given that week 5 looks pretty intense and the holidays interfered with my consistency. Maybe I'll just go for it, though.

I'm new to the group, though I've been tracking calories on MFP for awhile. Can't wait to make my way through the posts on here and connect with others doing the C25K.

2 weeks at a time is a great idea, Meredithfp! I've always said that if I have trouble with a certain week, I don't have a problem redo-ing it! This isn't a time limit thingy for me. Just happened along the way that I've discovered that I actually like to run! Who wouldda thunk it?! :)

Yes, Happy New Year, running buddies!
