Since upping my calories...

I'm finding that I am getting so hungry to the point that I could eat more than my already increased calories!

I was on 1200-1300 calories with cardio everyday
Since a week ago, I upped my calories to 1700, and now 1900, and have started Stronglifts with cardio only once a week (since cardio everyday and eating less wasn't doing much for fat loss anymore)

Why am I SO hungry now since my increase in cals...?? And don't say to drink more water, because I drink COPIOUS amounts haha

Any help or suggestions as to why this is happening ? Something to do with my metabolism? Why is my body wanting more when I'm already giving it lots more? And I'm just 5'0.5, so 1900 should be plenty, right?

I wouldn't blame your hunger on upping the calories. I'd say it mostly has to do with Stronglifts. Your body needs fuel to perform so feed it, but give your body time to get used to your new routine.

    Only after three Stronglifts sessions?

I think it is from upping my calories! My body is still adjusting

Exactly. Most of people were starving when they upped their calories. It will calm down in some days :)

This is really common when upping your cals.

I went through it too. It does go away but it took me about 8 weeks or so for that intense hunger to back off.

The good things is that it is your metabolism working.

Thanks for posting! I was going to ask this same question...I was like "no way! Do I need to eat even MORE?" I'll give my body time to adjust =)

I've noticed the times that I've gone from cardio to incorporating strength training, I've gotten super hungry in the early days of it. I think the important thing to ask yourself is are you legitimately hungry (my stomach growls and feels like it's turning itself inside out) or are you just thinking about eating perhaps out of habit or boredom? For me, when my stomach is growling and feels empty, I put food in it regardless of how many calories my MFP diary says I should -- sometimes it doesn't take much even though I feel famished. A handful of nuts sometimes is all I need. I figure if my body is really asking for food, it NEEDS it.

    Great contrast between reasons.

I'll add one more. Hungry because last meal was carb heavy and that effected you negatively, and you got low blood sugar - which will make you feel hungry. But no stomaching eating you usually, just feel hungry and usually tired.

In which case, protein and fat at every meal/snack eaten first for balance.

Hey, at least if eating more with lifting, and getting close to maintenance, the biggest improvement is going to be from the lifting then, so no better time to have a problem keeping a deficit than when lifting.

I am so glad I read this, so I am prepared to be hungry again with starting lifting!

To add to everyone else's replies, when I upped my calories I was starving too! It lasted about a week for me, and I still randomly feel really hungry.
