Hi, everyone! I started biking close to a year ago and am still discovering different trails. I thought I would share my experiences here in case others are looking for places to bike!

I tried the Farmington Canal Heritage trail today and it was awesome. Mostly flat, paved, and off the road. I started in Simsbury but the trails run from Massachusetts down to New Haven.

What are your favorite trails that are bike-friendly?

    I bike the Farmington Canal trail in Southington and Cheshire all the time. They're great!

    There's also a bike path in Middlebury that's challenging because it has some good hills.

    How do you bike from the end of the trail in Cheshire over to the Southington portion? At the end on Cornwall Avenue I turn around. Not sure how to extend my ride further in that direction.

    They haven't connected the Southington section to the Cheshire section... yet. They just recently completed an expansion of the Southington trail to just south of Rt. 322 in Milldale. I heard they're working on getting the rights to connect all the way through to Cheshire, which would be sweet!!!

    I did 15 miles the other day on the Cheshire line and did around 8 on the Southington trail yesterday :)

    It's short (only 3.5 miles) but the Housatonic Rail Trail in Trumbull is really nice, shaded, not paved but pretty flat. I did the Airline State Park Trail last month (near Hebron) and it was a lot of fun, 34 miles biked total (there and back)

    I go to the Farmington Canal trail sometimes, I love it! There's one much closer to my house that's the Derby Shelton Greenway (aka Riverwalk). I often go there to run, but plenty of people bike it as well.

    I saw someone mentioned the rail trail in Trumbull. I grew up going on that trail, if you've got a mountain bike, there are miles and miles of trails off of the main path that you can explore. It's a blast!

    Im up near UCONN. Nathan Hale forest has some tough rocky trails. Mansfield Hollow has some fun ones as well.

    I ride my bike to and on the Farmington Canal Trail usually from Simsbury/Granby to the end in Mass or to the end in Farmington then take the connector trail through Burlington area.

    I also discovered the 4-5 mile Windsor Locks trail. It's really cool because the CT river is on one side of you and the locks/canal on the other!

    I live in Burlington 2 miles from the trail heads for the Farmington Canal trail. Love it! Especially when the weather is nicer, you barely notice how far you're going and how much exercise you're getting because it's so pretty.
