Hi!
My name is Micaela. I am 29 and mother of 4! I have come to the realization that I have starved every aspect of my life by fad diets and unintentionally eating low calories! I have failed to pay attention to the negative affects of doing this! Maybe I ignored them! Either way, I am very into working out, but am very ready to see results! I never lose weight because I have never given myself the fuel to do so!
This new mindset, eating more healthy, is a personal battle! I feel disgustingly full and bloated and I even cried myself to sleep because I was discouraged, that I may be, making the wrong decision! Not wrong in eating more healthy (bc I am not a junk eater), but all these extra calories hurt! I was always told eating until you were stuffed was wrong! This is making me feel gluttonous! I don't except defeat well and I have a wonderful support system at home! So I am willing to give this a go!
What I am hoping for is a healthier mind, one that can except me, without starving, and love food not hate it! If I lose more weight, that is a bonus!
I need a good support team on MVP, people who understand and can encourage me to keep on keeping on!

Eating full TDEE (2190) until I feel emotionally ready... I don't like giving myself a time frame, but thinking 6 weeks? I have some high burns that I need to make up for and need to make sure not to drop below BMR which is 1600?

Good for you making the switch!! And you are so right, mind first. Setting myself up for EM2WL was the most challenging part. Don't feel bad about eating more, you were hurting yourself before, and need to heal by eating right before you can get to where you wan to be.
You won't feel like you are stuffing your face for long, you will soon be hungry on a regular basis0 -
Thanks for the comforting reply!0

Welcome!
Your body's metabolism has been surpressed for a long time it appears so your body is not going to release any more fat (read here weight) until it feels like it is not being neglected. In order to do that you have to reboot your metabolism like rebooting an computer to establish a new set point for your metabolism. This could take 8-12 weeks to accomplish eating at TDEE. Once your body feels like you are not attempting to starve it again it will begin to release fat. You do that by eating at a slight deficit of your TDEE. Depending upon your weight goal and where you are now it is recommended eating at a TDEE less 15% cut. Closer to your goal less of a cut. After 4-6 weeks of deficit eating go back for a week and eat at TDEE mainteance again so your body will not attempt to set a lower set point for your metabolism. Then begin your cut again.
http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/ is a good site to run your BMR/TDEE numbers. As you lose 5 pounds redo the calculations as your BMR will change.
Hope this helps for starters.0 -
Hi Micaela! I am in the same boat. Have eaten around 1200 calories for too many years, and have slowly been upping them, but haven't quite had the nerve to go all the way to TDEE. I am finally going to take steps to do it now. It's definitely a mental game. I am a sucker for the numbers on the scale, and I hate that I weigh myself sometimes 2 or 3 times a day to see how I am "progressing". I do set a date a month out, and record that weight, as my "weigh in", along with measurements and pics..but I would be lying if I said I didn't stress about the scale, and consider ditching my eat more efforts. If you are looking for support, just drop a friend request, and we will do this together and be some sexy ladies come summer! Good luck to you in your journey! I am right there with ya!0

Hi Micaela,
I am right there with you.. I was working out and eating maybe 1200 calories a day ( some of mine was junk) and I couldn't loose weight. I even started putting back on some of the weight I lost earlier. Once I got on to MFP it was a few weeks and I came across this group. I started reading a lot of the post and searching through the group and it all started making since to me.. It was like a light bulb clicked on and I realized what I had been doing. I was not giving my body enough food to survive on. I started last week eating my TDEE 2065 the first few days I was feeling very full and bloated. I was able to eat more but not all of the 2065 calories. The last 2 days I came very close to it I am not feeling as full either I was forcing my self to eat because I was not hungry and today I actually felt a little hungry before lunch, I am making progress. I use to weigh my self anytime I went to the gym which is 4-5 times a week. I have managed to not get on the scales the last 3 times I went which is a huge accomplishment for me. I have decided that I am going to eat healthy and work out hard and be happy with me!!! It is a mental decision I have made. I keep telling myself this many times during the day. So far I have not noticed any weight gain.. It has only been a week since I started eating more.
I will be happy to be friends so we can encourage each other just send an invite.:flowerforyou:
Best of luck,

Hi there, feel free to add me if you want. I've been around for over a year and it is truely the only way to go. Have you checked out the em2wl website?? There is a starter kit for a small fee that has heaps of info in it, oh and another forum and site that was started up by the amazing woman that started this group.
You sound like you are in the right head space to conquer this, well done and best of luck.:flowerforyou:0 -
Day 10:
The scary part, eating more and gaining, has subsided! I feel really strong after 10 days! I'm not bloated and I'm thrilled to see that I have not gained anything by increasing full TDEE! Although, I have not lost, I'm confident that I am where I am supposed to be! I feel great! I hope, some little voice whispers to me, "you are ready to cut 15%" thanks to all my new friends and old ones! Mostly my sister for dropping MFP in my lap!
Micaela0 -
I started TDEE - 20% a month ago and I have gained 4 lbs. I joined MFP in Jan. and the first month I lost 5 lbs eating 1200 cal. So I have gained almost all of it back. I will be honest, I am very discouraged, but I am not giving up. I have had the mind set of eating less and exersising more for many years and it always worked for me temperarily until my hunger gave in and I started to eat normal meals and the weight would come back. I want this EMTWL method to work so badly. I too weigh every day like a bad addiction and daily discouragement from the scale is very disheartening. I would love to have a few friends that really understand this method to help me make sure I am doing it correctly. I know I need to be patient, but I just want to make sure I am doing what I need to do. If any of you veterans have some extra time I would love to partake of your expert advice. Please send me a friemd request. Thanks!! Hang in there MicaelaFW!! I know we can do this!0

You are so lucky you haven't gained anything!!
If you are eating at TDEE, make sure you have gotten to your TDEE by adding 250 calories for two weeks, and see if you gain a 1lb over that time period. If yes, you will know your TDEE is where you are now, if you don't gain anything, your TDEE may be even higher. This is to make sure you maximize your 'potential' to eat more.
Also, wait that 6 weeks you told yourself in the beginning before cutting, you don't want to cut too early and trick your body into thinking your starving it again.
I was given this advice about a month ago by heybales, and I am glad I stuck it out.
I just started my cut last Friday, so I don't know about results yet.0 -

So, because for 10 days I have gained nothing, I should increase another 250 calories?? for 2 weeks? if I still gain nothing increase again?0

i have never heard making sure you were at the right TDEE?? is this to make sure I am not over exercising and have not figured my TDEE correctly?0 -

Maybe you need a reset? eating at full TDEE?? thanks for the encouragement! Good luck to you!0 -
So, because for 10 days I have gained nothing, I should increase another 250 calories?? for 2 weeks? if I still gain nothing increase again?
If no quick gain, or that's over, you had no glucose stores with water weight increase, unusual, but fine. Perhaps weren't undereating that bad then.
So indeed, increase 250 more. If that is truly your TDEE, you'd gain 1 lb of fat in 2 weeks. Unless you also started a new exercise routine, that may cause more water increases, so only 1 variable at a time.0 -
i have never heard making sure you were at the right TDEE?? is this to make sure I am not over exercising and have not figured my TDEE correctly?
Many that increase calories slowly will report that at each increase level - they gain nothing, as they keep increasing to their estimated TDEE. The lose nothing either.
So eating at 1200. Went to 1400. No gain. Does that mean that is the TDEE, since no gain? No, metabolism still suppressed, at slightly higher level though.
Up to 1600, no gain or loss. Is that TDEE, or still suppressed?
Well, if 1400 was no gain or no loss, and eating at 1600 is no gain or loss, is dropping back to 1400 going to do anything, at least for very long? No.
Up to 1800, no gain or loss. Time to drop to 1600 then? No, you already showed no loss there.
Perhaps up to 2000 now, and show loss of 1/4 lb in a week. Really want to stay there? Body feels safe enough giving you some deficit, but if you go higher to estimated 2200, and then lower back down correctly, it may give you full amount.
Keep going up to estimated TDEE. You know you nailed it when you actually go over it - proved by slight weight gain you should get. For instance, if it took 1 month at the end of raising to gain 1 lb, then that would imply that eating number was 125 calories over real TDEE.
So now with real TDEE known, you may reset there couple more weeks, or may deficit from that number now.0 -

Okay I guess I am going to have break down and get on the scales. I haven't weighed since I started eating at what I believe is my TDEE 2065. So from what I gather I should have gained some weight. If not I should increase my calories a little more until I start to gain some weight. Then stay there for my reset. Right?0 -

Oh yes, this made very clear sense! I will increase again on my 2 weeks!0 -
So I weighed today because I wanted to make sure TDEE was right! Should be gaining... I actually lost 3lbs (mid day fully clothed) so... Must I increase or just wait till my two week mark?0

Must use valid weigh-in days. Morning after rest day of eating normal sodium levels and not still sore from previous lifting.
So might go back through past weigh-ins and see what was actually valid data. I'd delete the rest as just fluctuations.0 -

Ok then that will be tomorrow morning! I was actually sore today from yesterday's lifting and was surprised by the # being low (disappointed too because I dread the thought Of increasing my calories more)0 -

I weighed today actually it was tonight at the gym and I have gained 2 lbs in almost 2 weeks. I just saw this post about valid weigh-ins... I did not use a valid weigh in. I didn't know about this so I will weigh again on Sat morning. I have been eating close to my TDEE. I am not sure if I need to increase or am I eating enough since I gained weight. I have always weighed at the gym at night because that is where the scale is. I guess I need to purchase a scale for home.0 -
Yea, I have heard to weigh yourself in the am and not after strenuous workouts, but body does fluctuate a few pounds! I think it won't hurt to buy a scale (I like to ignore mine lol) it's dusty if you want it )0
-
So I went out and bought a digital scale so it would weight more accurately and so I can see the numbers:laugh: . I also bought a digital measuring tape I think I am going to like it It is easier to use by myself. so I took all of my measurements today since I haven't lifted in a couple of days ( I am going to the gym today ) I will check out the scales( well I had to get on them and see shat they said it is close to the ones at the gym but it was this afternoon when I weighed) so I will see what they say after I have a rest day.I will then have something here to go by.

Digital measuring tape?? that would be amazing! Never heard of them! Where did you find it? (I'm in no mans land- so things are harder to find)0 -
I found it at Walmart where the scales are. It makes it a lot easier to measure.
Sorry it took me so long to resond I was out of town for a few days..

I'm new to this as well but what has helped me is: adding flax seeds to food, drinking protein skates and eating more nuts & seeds. Don't be discouraged we are here to support you. Also I don't know how many times a day you eat but I eat every 3 hours. I plan is set up for at least 5 meals/snacks a day. I hope this helps.0 -
