How to continue?

I just finished W3D3 for the second time. I repeated week 3 because I am having trouble getting through the 3 min run. I do what I think is pretty good for the first 3 mins but then for the second 3 mins I have a real hard time. Even today I did. I am doing the program on a treadmill at home. I have a hard time breathing right. I just don't know. I am going to try W4D1 on Sunday and see how I do but I am really intimidated by jogging for 5 mins since I can barely get through 3. :( Part of me wants to give up but that is what I always do and I am tired of it. Plus I have a 5K in May and another one in July that I signed up for. I guess I am just looking for encouragement and some tips that worked for others who may have felt like me.

definitely don't give up, maybe even do that week over again. There were times when I thought I was going to die and now I am on c10k week 11!! It's incredible what your body can do when you push it. but if you need to repeat a week a few times there is nothing wrong with that at all.

Don't give up, you can do this! Try to slow down as much as possible and concentrate on your stride and breathing.

I second the recommendation to slow down ... it really helps (especially when you're on a treadmill), and there is NO shame in it. Go as slow as you need to go to get through it ... you're building stamina.

I'm going to third the slowing down a bit. Take your time and relax it's more important to finish the runs than the speed you do them. That can be worked on later. Even my brisk walking probably wasn't as brisk as others...

I'm really getting worried about your breathing. Are you able to see a doctor?

I have reactive airways (a form of asthma that doesn't cause asthma attacks, it just constricts the air passages). It wasn't diagnosed until my 30s and made it difficult for me to exercise. I'd get so red in the face - my ballet teachers would yell at me for not breathing when I was a kid - but I was doing my best. When the doctor put me on Advair, my quality of life went WAY up. I was able to do so much more physically that I could never do before.

I'm not a medical professional and even if I was, I wouldn't diagnose you on a message board, but what you describe sounds a lot like what I had.

    Take care of yourself!!!!

I had to google how to breathe! In through both mouth and nose. You need all the o2 you can get. Then exhale completely before taking another breath. Focusing on breathing also seems to make the time go by faster than focusing on the clock for me.

Thanks! I google pretty much everything except for that! LOL Well I completed W4D1 on Sunday and am set to do W4D2 today. I got through it and I didn't hyperventilate. ;)

That is great news! A lot of this is just figuring out how YOU run and it sounds like you are doing that. Congratulations on your run.
