Hello all, I hope you did not forget me. I took a leave of absence from MFP for a bit when overwhelmed with my Mom's issues. She seems more stable now, but now I have a major life change.
I was let go of my job of 12 years yesterday. Basically I was made a scape goat/example for other employees. On Monday of this week put in the position of doing a job I have only done 2 times in 12 years. I thought a co worker dropped the cash bag in the safe, but she did not. Like I said in 12 years I have done this particular job twice. I did not double check $$$ was still there the next day, but I was dismissed. I am hurt by the action as I had glowing evals & if you remember that issue I had a few months ago with a co-worker my superivsor backed me to the wall on it.
I am trying to take this as a sign I need to concentrate on myself now. While I have been walking some times up to 17 miles on a weekend I have not jogged in about a month & have not been logging on MFP. For the next couple of months I will enjoy the summer & concentrate in making me the best person I can. I just e-mailed to see if my town has any community garden space left for this summer & put the kayack racks on the roof of my car. This afternoon I am going to unemployment to apply (I was told I would be able to collect).
Carol, good luck to the fisherman hubby. Living on the shore hear in NE I have had striper many times. I like it just baked with thin slices of Lemon..
To everyone else, I am glad to be back & will catch up with everyone's posts this evening.

Love you Sue....

Kathy,
I am SO sorry to hear about your job loss. I commend your attitude though, its a sign that it is time to move on and take care of you. Prayers covering you my dear.
Just finished chemo... only 2 more to go! Doc is now talking radiation potential. He wants to do the PETscan first. So we'll see.... So far doing okay. Tired but thats my normal an hour after. Taking a nap, may see you later...
yuummmy, a chocolate bar the size of a door? I like it!0 -
Leslye I just read about what has been happening in your life. My goodness you take care girl friend, you certaining have had your share of troubles. My aunt went thru colon cancer & has now been cancer free for 15 years. They really have made such advances in the medical field. I am sure you have found some strong support, but you have me thinking now that maybe since I have some extra time with not working I will be able to join that group I walked with last year to raise $ to support people with cancer in my community. They do a lot to support families with transportation, baby sitting, yard work or what ever the need shall be.
Patrice, boy a 1/2 marathon a big IPOU. I know from when I did the walk last year what an accomplishment that is to have run that distance.
Janet & Snooozie seem to be co mayors of Hatter's Ville lately, keeping everyone motivated.
I jogged on the treadmill tonight as it was raining outside. Tomorrow to be a beautiful day, I think a long walk shall be in the plans, Nothin like fresh air & sunshine to reduce life's stress.
Take care everyone.

Kathy, so sorry to hear of your job loss. sounds like you are moving with a positive attitude, so hang in there. remember that sometimes care givers take care of their elderly or sick loved one and forget to take care of themselves!
Leslye, only two more chemos! woo hoo and goodbye cancer!0 -
Hi all!
Sorry I've been MIA.. just finished a set of 7 shifts and not getting home til 2am and my puter giving me probs are my excuses.. I suck at typing on my phone so although Ive been reading I have been remiss so this morning before I start my chores I'm catching up on the replies (i've been reading all along tho!!) Will have to backtrack to remind me as i type so this could get a little convoluted!!
Bis - so very sorry to hear about the job thing too.. that completely sucks and is so unfair!! But as Janet and the others said, you are handling it amazingly with the right attitude - well done YOU! I'm glad you're going to get a little me time now as well - I think of you every time I take my walk in the park now because of that time you told us you took a garbage bag along and picked up garbage..every time I get there i think shoot i have to remember to do the same!
Leslye.. so glad to hear only two more rounds... lady you are such an inspiration!! Huge hugs and hope you've recovered a wee bit from the fatigue after the last bout and are feeling a wee bit better to enjoy the weekend!
LOL @ CAROLE AND LESLEY.. re the chocolate bar the size of a door?? I didnt notice it til you guys said it.. now of course... that's all i SEE!
Tonya I want details on the dinner at the chef's place.. was it awesome?? I think sometimes we forget we're supposed to LOVE food... real food that is..things we love that are delicious and beautifully prepared and enjoyed and are healthy for us.. and while im sure there may have been a wee bit of decadence in there, I bet a large part was healthy stuff and so I hope you enjoyed.. being someone who loves food and hates cooking I have to get my thrills vicariously !0 -
Janet I've never used a hypnotist but a good one can have a lot of success with phobias for people so it might be worth checking out? I've never choked on a fishbone but choking on anything is scary as heck so its no wonder you havent touched fish since! what about shrimp or oysters.. they dont have bones do they ? I should probably know that but although I love all kinds of regular fish, I don't eat shrimp or lobster or shellfish at all so I'm not really sure whats in em lol).0
-
Tammy - have you had a chance to talk to your doc about the meds maybe holding u back yet?? or waiting til school is done to go in? I hear ya on the exercise as... as you know.. I have always struggled far more with it. I talked to a friend at work who is a trainer recently and she suggested for a few weeks to try only 30 min of cardio (that an hour while great for my heart, would not benefit me weight loss wise and might even been holding me back a bit.. go figure!) Anyway she suggested do 30 min a day but to do HIT (the high intensity workout) which is basically whatever you're doing.. bike, walk, elipticpal.. every 4 minutes do one minute of all out til you think your gonna die effort...then another 4 min of regular then another minute of full out).. I tried it today for 40 min.. when I started I could only do 15 seconds of HIT but the last one of the session i made it a full minute lol) and to my shock I was dripping sweat down my face and neck.. far more so than when i do an hour of regular brisk walk or 20 min of reg on eliptical. So I'm gonna try it for a few weeks and see if it has any results. I'm not going to lie part of the appeal is less time having to exercise too LOL..
gAIL - that salmon sounds yummy.. make it for me and i'll come to your house for dinner. As for the sweets.. "I still have that fab article you posted a while back about "breaking up with sugar" - I can repost it for ya if you want lol.. I have to refer to it often to wage my own battle with sugar!
kobiemom i'm sending you a taxi driver hat to wear! sounds like you're having a busy time of it hope you survive.. if things get too rough i'll send a bottle of vino your way!
Janet - hope your son's kidney stones are ok.. ive been at emerg a few nights with my sister as her gallstones acted up - they cant do the surgery til the inflammation and infection go away but the last attack lasted so long were afraid of a rupture - hopefully we'll know mjid month when they can get it out.. can they do the last blast with your son's KS ? How was the pedicure? I'm hoping to get some sandals this weekend and if so will be scheduleing one soon!
Lassie - you've had a ***** of a week - hope things are settling down and you got some me tim to de stress!
Susan - missing you but hope you're having a great time at your sister's party!! and thanks again for the lovely pictures.. that oar has been holding me steady all week and i'll be paddling hard all weekend to keep it going... and the door is securely locked against those regainers in case they come back.. i'll do like sheldon did on the Big Bang and electrify the place so if they show up they get zapped!
k.. gotta get at my chores the day is almost gone... but.. for all of you OUAT fans i hear the season finale is this sunday so enjoy!!0 -
Hello my wonderful ladies
Snoozie not yet but I am calling and schedualing this week. I have seen some post on HIT but had no idea what it was. I like the idea and think I will try that also.
10 days and counting !!! Busy busy busy the list seems to grow longer daily. Top this will last week being teacher appreciation week there has been lots of in and outs from outsiders this week. I had just decided to up my calories, guess someone above saw this coming before I knew. Over all I think I survived the week pretty good. At first I was going to restrict myself but then decided that would end up kicking me in the butt emotionally. So the alternative plan I came up with was enjoy things that I don't usually purchase and bring home b/c I would over indulge.
Controled environment eating is what I call this. I have done this with a few foods that seem to make me want to binge in the past and it works good for me. This plan served me well and I feel good about the week. I stayed in check with the exception of yesterday when the lunch lady was absent and the other girls didn't make my salad without letting me know I would need to bring a lunch:huh: I had enjoyed my favorite pecan pie for breakfast (I know not the best time but one pie doesn't last long and that was going to be my only treat for the day) but when I had nothing for lunch I choose a small slice of carrot cake since potato chips are an endless bag in my hands unless they are an indiviual bag.
As of yesterday the up in calories hasn't caused any gain or loss I am glad to report. I figure I will do this for a couple of week and then kick things back in gear when school ends. I will add my sister has sought out a nutritionalist for help and everything I have been doing is his exact suggestions (high protien and lower carbs and sugars) for her. So I do feel I am on the right path and that sooner of later it will begin moving again. And if not I may make an appointment for myself. Having someone else review my logs without self bias I do feel could be benificial. I have really tracked sugar so I am going to change that today. He also told her unless we are having trouble with cholesterol that shrimp are a perfect way to up our protien that their nutrional value out weight any negatives otherwise. She took a list of questions that we have shared so it was almost like I was there except he has a scale that weight your muscles and body fat, I so am jealous of that !!! I want to go just for that now but not for the $$ just yet if I can work this out on my own.
Of course I just got a call that my brother (newly separated and having to learn about entertaining LOLOL) is hosting a birthday party for my niece tonight. Oh well another day of real life and learning to maneuver through with best choices of the situation.
Hope everyone one enjoys the weekend and takes time for themselves,0 -
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO HATTERS EVERYWHERE!!!
Its been a wonderful week to be a mother! My oldest turned 30 which made me very reflective about our years as parents. and then yesterday our youngest graduated from St. Mary's college of Maryland. Many may have read about her school last year when they had a mold problem in one of the dorms. when the busses to hotels took too long, they brought in a cruise ship and docked it in the river. graduation was under a tent next to the river and after the storms passed it was a lovely day. but then we needed to move her out of her 2nd floor dorm room, not to mention help with the cleaning! the parents of all 4 girls (who never leave their rooms without perfect grooming) were appalled with the mess! between moving and supervising the cleaning, I burned plenty of calories. the mothers were doing the hard work while the fathers seemed to be moving cars most of the time!
being in the hotel does bring food challenges. I always like the make your own waffles at the breakfast bars. the Hamptons have walnuts next to the oatmeal which is great for adding protein to the waffle, instead of the jelly I would usually add.
NSV-size 12, I bought a skort at a consignment shop, it was a dress barn size 12!! I thought DressBarn is probably just sized generously, but today I am wearing a denim skort from Kohls that is also a size 12, so it must be real! I love wearing skorts in the summer, so much more comfortable (and modest) than shorts. When I am not working or playing tennis, I will be wearing one of these two skorts. I just have not gotten into crop pants, being tall I was always self conscious about my pants being too short, hand me downs from shorter relatives. So crop pants just bring back too short pants memories.
sorry no specific comments about any of you, still backed up on my reading, but you are all in my thoughts. Happy Mothers Day, especially for those of you who lost your mom this year or are dealing with your mom's failing health! Janet0 -
Janet - just realized I posted on your wall but not here -
:drinker: :drinker: HUGE CONGRATS ON THE SIZE 12!!! :drinker: :drinker:
That is an awesome NSV .. so happy for you!! Woot woot!!
Doing the happy feet dance!
nOT MUCH NEW IN MY CORNER TODAY;... got my exercise in and so far the HIT thing is working well as its getting me to actually DO my exercise, even if the motivation is less time spent doing it the added bonus of more calories burned in less time is definitely helping me stick to my goal so it's a win LOL!0 -
Good morning Hatters!
Well we're halfway through the month.. how's everyone doing with their journey/goals?
I've struggled a bit with my food choices the past week, however I'm proud of the fact I am succeeding in meeting my exercise goal of 30 minutes every day.
I start midnight shift tonight for a week and it's always a difficult time for me and often has been an excuse for making poor eating choices, so this week I will be working hard at improving my choices and my attitude.
What's on the agenda for all theHatters this week?

Looking at selling my clothes thru e-bay... nervous... will probably set up an additonal bank account so that the money doesn't get confused - if that makes sense....:ohwell:
Does taking 1-2 weeks seem like too long to deliver... for instance clothes sell on Monday.. but ship on the upcoming Saturday....
thoughts please....
Not going to buy on e-bay... like to try on + can always find things for "cheap".....
Carol0 -
Lol Carole ! I'm no help as I don't use Ebay due to the $$ involved with customs and excise from the States.. (
Susan can't wait to hear details and see pics of the party !!! Welcome home we missed u!:flowerforyou:0 -
I have sold a lot of stuff on e-bay & it really is quite easy. I do think your shipment should be quicker. I usually sent my stuff out the following day. Buyers review you and will want items they purchaced delivered quickly. Being noted as a fast shipper will make your items more sought after. When setting your prices it is important to take into account the cost of shipping. I sold a lot of collector dishes and bric brac. Heavier items that cost more to ship in my oppinion not worth selling on ebay.0
-
Kathy,
How did you set up your pay pal account?
I will definitely strive to ship within 3-5 business days - would that be better?
UGH! So much to do, so little time.....:grumble:
Carol0 -
Carol, the pay pal site will walk you thru setting up an account. Any money you make will stay with pay pal untill you request it. I tied my pay pal account to my checking account, then when I requested pay pal would transfer it to my checking account. Ebay I believe has tutorials that walk you thru the process or you might want to check out your local adult education program or community college. I know both in my area have workshops for on line selling. Best of luck & keep me posted as to how you do. I am glad to offer any help based on my experience.
I have been meaning to ask, how was the fishing? Keeper's are like 32" so I know it can be tough to get one early in the season. I am sure you are hearing your share fo fish tales lol..
Lots of heavy house hold chores done over the past few days, boy does it feel good to get them crossed off the to do list. It has been cool here in New England, so waiting untill later in the week when weather is to be warmer to tackle some out side tasks. Since I have the time I am going to attempt a small garden. My lot does not have a lot of sun, but containers for the tomatoes in front of the garage should work & a small area in the back yard gets a fair amount of sun so I will try a few veggies that my research tells me can do fairly well with less than all day sun.
I donated blood yesterday, so pushing the fluids today. Not sure if it was a good idea or not, but I walked to and from the donor center (40 minutes each way). This AM feeling a bit fatigued, so think my day will be spent on paper work and maybe a walk later in the day so I can tackle some more heavy chores tomorrow.
Hope you all have a blessed day. Kathy0 -
Kathy,
Thanks for the advice - will keep you posted. Definitely going to set up a separate account though from my normal checking. Just seems / feels safer.
The men didn't get to keep anything - like you said too early in the season. I think the entire boat only kept 3. But the main thing is they got to get away from everything and enjoy - the sun, the beer, the friendship. Like they said "it is what it is"....
Carol0 -
Carol,
I use paypal for ebay. You may want to look into that. In the past I have purchased entire wardrobes for season for my little one. I find it fast and convinent (thats probably spelled incorrectly LOLOL good thing I don't teach spelling)
We are in wind down so busy busy these days with less than two weeks to go.
I am focusing on good choices this week after teacher appreciation indulgences last week. Bell rings any minute got to run
Everyone have a great week0 -
Another year older, wiser, happier. I woke up this morning feeling much better than I have in the past years… Reflecting on this I realized a few things I know I can live without:
I can live without:
Feeling puffy and bloated from water weight gain.
Having to do the jump- down- heave-jump- up….. To get into my jeans. ( …has anyone been there?)
Having to lie down on the bed to fasten those jump- down- heave-jump- up into jeans…then needing to find someone to help me get up off the bed.
My thighs trying to wrestle each other to see who can get there first. No one ever wins that one… they just wear my jeans out.
Shorts bunching up with every stride …..Until it looks like you’re wearing a sarong which is so wrong!
The Big Girl sweat ... trying to get into a pair of stockings for church… (Actually I quit having to go through that when I started buying long maxi skirts to eliminate the need for stockings)
Having to find something higher to put my foot on, so I can tie my shoes.
Muffin top….(I’m still working on that one….)
Just a few things.0 -
Gail....
Been there, done that.... DONE!
stockings, putting the foot higher to tie shoes, jeans, shorts as sarongs are so wrong...
Everyone....
I have a paypal account set up - will link to my current checking account, nervous, but better than opening another...
I already had an ebay account - will they use that user name when I sell?
Looking to not refund and use the ebay guarantees... spell check?
Anything else you can think of? Should I wait to sell the fall items closer to Aug.. thinking will be easier... and I noticed that one seller had 5 pairs in 1 photo... thoughts?
Also, how does the paypal thing work - someone pays into it and then I get my money when I request - and how do ebay and paypal talk to each other?
Thanks for listening ladies....
Carol0 -
I can't help with the eBay stuff so will leave it to the hatter experts Carole
Gail :flowerforyou: happy birthday my friend !! Hope this year brings you much joy and happiness! :flowerforyou:0 -
Ladies...
Sorry to ramble on but.....
What do you think about me using a trusted agent to sell my "big girl" clothes?
Seems easier.... maybe?
Carol0 -
Carol, I do not know about the "trusted agent" I have never heard of it. I would wait unitll closer to fall to get the best price on the fall stuff. Think about supply & demand. Fall/winter stuff on clearance now in the stores & everyone looking for summer clothes. Another tip from me I started and ended my auctions on Sunday nights. I figured most people had time to spend on e-bay on the weekends, therefore more compitition/better price.
Rather an emotional day for me today. I was doing well, then found out my health insurance which I thought I had untill June 1st to find an alternative plan for my son & I was canceled last week. I have worked hard my whole life & am just beside myself. I have found a temporary plan, but can not even apply for it untill I get the Cobra letter from my former employeer. Never in my life have I been with out insurance & I am so frightened. I was supposed to have a minor in office proceedure on Thursday & now with no insurance will need to delay it potentially a few weeks. Typically an emotional eater I stayed strong (once I dried my tears) and went for a long walk along the river to de-stress. I know this is just a bump in the road of life & things could be worse.
Take care my friends & I will check in with everyone tomorrow. Kathy0 -
Sorry to hear your news about insurance Kathy. I completely understand as I have been uninusred most of my life and lived with the fear of 'what if" to many times. ((HUGS)))
Carol, I agree with Kathy on waiting until fall and the Sunday ending, all good tips.
Well early day for duty so bed for me. Everyone have a great Wednesday0 -
It was a marvelous Mother's Day this year as I got to actually spend it with my mother in Michigan (and my sisters and niece :-)
0 -
Susan, gorgeous pics-profile and family. BUT tell us about it!
Kathy, you are awesome, willing to walk 40 minutes to give blood with all the stress in your life! The insurance situation sucks, no one should have to go through that.
Carol, definitely wait until your clothes are in season before selling them. Although you may want to sell a few little items to build up your rating for when you are ready to sell the bulk of the things. BUT you must ship faster, when people (me) buy on ebay they want it quickly and people (not me) will post complaints when it is not. End the sale on Thursday and post that the shipments will be made on Saturday. One thing that you may want to look at is the amount of money that you will realize from the sale as compared to the amount of money the same item will realize as a tax deduction. (warning-not a tax expert) Considering that I have no extra time, that is why Purple Heart is coming tomorrow to pick up 5 large bags of too large clothes tomorrow. That does not even include my work suits and blazers which are also leaving the house.
Meanwhile, I am Janet and I am addicted to shopping at the Goodwill and the consignment shop!! I have enough summer dresses, fortunately today is the first work day I can wear one of my new spring/summer dresses to work. I tell myself that I have enough but then I am on the way to the dentist to have a screw put in my head (implant) when I notice I am 30 minutes early, what else can I do, but make a quick consignment stop. Then when I drop off the prescriptions for the anti-biotics and the pain meds, the pharmacist says it will be 20 minutes, just enough time to go to the Goodwill. It was especially exciting because I some of the clothes that fit are actually size 12! (I justify my shopping visits by believing the announcements they make that my purchase is helping to employ people with disabilities) But this trip was certainly worth it. We are going to our first formal function in many years next week. We are going to a formal dinner award ceremony at Mount Vernon to celebrate George Washington's birthday . I had a dress that I thought I would wear but when I went on the website to look at previous year events,I didn't think it was elegant enough. But I figured it was good enough, I don't know these people. Well, my trusty consignment shop is under new management and for the first time accepting formal wear. I found a light gold long dress with a beaded top that fit me like a glove, even the right length for my 5'10" self. Then at Goodwill I found a size 12 two piece dark gold straight dress with a lace and lightly beaded jacket with a glittery clasp. When I got home and put the jacket with the first dress and tried them on together, it looked perfect. My 22 year old just grinned when she saw me, total approval and I was going to wait to show Bob, but I just had to show off. Bob was so wowed that he said it was probably the most beautiful outfit I had worn my whole life!!! And since he has seen every outfit that I have worn since I was 17, 41 years ago, that is a lot of outfits. We have been invited to this event before, but i have always found a reason not to go, when the real reason was that I did not want to try to fit into a formal dress and feel huge next to Bob who would wear the same tux that he could have worn to our wedding. I can't wait to tell you all about it next week. (as for my addiction while I was there I bought a silk blouse, two dresses and a pair of shorts, total cost of shopping spree-$45, feeling of buying size 12 clothes that fit me-PRICELESS!0 -
Susan, yes a beautiful picture and tell us more of your story. Family pictures like the one you posted are priceless. So many people do not make the efffort to take them.
Janet, I can not wait to hear of your formal event & please post pictures as well. I agree about the thrift shops. As I have stated in the past my favorite is at my church. All items are $2 unless marked diffrently. Many times you can find brand new items with the original price tags still attached I am volunteering there on Saturday, if you lived closer I would say stop by for a visit.
Time for me to head out for a walk & enjoy the sunshine of a beautiful spring day. This truely is my favorite time of the year with the leaves popping out on the trees, spring flowers blooming, and sun glistening off the river. Hope everyone has wonderful day.0
