Hi all. Couldn't sleep so got up at noon as went for an hour and a half walk as the sun is out but forgot to check weather channel so found out the hard way there's a 49km wind lol. Doing better this nite shift with food choices but being up all nite working and then sleeping intermittently thru the day I find myself being up for 3 hrs or so then getting hungry right before going back to bed. Hate eating right before sleep but at least this time I'm reaching for fruit and proteins so ill take that as a nsv

Bisland… I am so sorry to hear about your insurance canceling early , I know it is fearful to be without these days. I pray something great happens for you soon!!
Janet…… Such awesome finds for you . I want to go up there to your consignment shops…they sound like they have much to look through and find many treasures. Love the photo with your daughter!! You’re another one the camera loves.!!
Carol…can’t help with the selling on Ebay…It intimidates me… You are doing such a great job with slimming down!!
Tammy…I know you are so ready for school to be out!! Thank you for all you do for our kids!!!
Leslye… Hopefully you’re down to1 more treatment, by now!! Wishing you much strength , It must really take all the energy out of you.

Great NSV over the last couple of days. Changing wardrobes (to clothes that aren't just hanging may have helped) but several students have made statements "Mrs. Arnold you're getting so small".
5 days and I am done only 4 of which I will have students. Seems silly but I am excited for next year and getting to reflect on what went well and what didn't this year to change and try and do better next year. Have all the lesson plans from this year will help save time as I will just change the ones that need changing. Also I do beleive teaching the same students will be good as we both will know the expectations of each other. These are all new experiences for me as I have been in 3 different schools and grades the last 3 years.
Have a great Thursday0 -
Just wonderful weather here in New England today. I got 2 long walks in & lots of outside chores done. Patio furniture out, garden area cleared & ready for my neighbor to till for me,and grass cut. It feels great to have all these chores done.
TArnold, I bet you are walking with an extra skip in your step after getting those compliments from your students. Kids just don't usually talk about such things so it must be impressive. A big IPOU is sent your way.
Carol, now that you mention consignment shops, I do believe this would be much easier & less stressful for you.
Snooozie this shift work must be a killer. I know I would not be able to adjust to such varied sleep patterns. I have never been able to sleep durning the day.
Gotta run & make dinner. Hope you all have a blessed day.
Kathy0 -
Kathy I just got back from my walk - I so didn't feel like going even with the beautiful weather but finally got my butt in gear in truth only because of my goal for this month od 3o min of exercise every day. Lol. But hey whatever gets me out te door right...and I was thinking of u cause I forgot my garbage bag to bring along again.
In truth I've always loved shift work and for the first 25 years even loved nights...it's only been te last few years combined with the overall sleep probs from menopause that nights have become my nemesis. But only a couple more so I shall in the words of someone once 'suck it up buttercup' and quit whining. Wel...cut down on it anyway lolol
Susan. In the pic who is the sister in the left at the front. Next to the orange shirt lady....? When I was looki g at them I thought she had the most family resemblance to you and was just wondering which sister was which lol. Bet Sophie and jake were crazy with joy having you home!
Pretty sure I did some replies on personal walls too so that's it for now
Better get my lunch made for work and do a few chores - hope everyone's having a good week !0 -
Hoping that my paypal account is closed - luckily they never had my banking info

So here is the unabridged story on my trip to Michigan
My baby sister Karen(yes Snoozie, you guessed it, the one on the left next to the orange dress sitting down) turned 50 on May 10th, so her Prince Charming of a husband David and she threw an incredible black tie dinner dance to celebrate. There were plenty of flowers
]
cocktails and conversations,
]
then a delicious dinner followed by dancing to this fantastic semi famous party band (had played at one of the inauguration balls).
]
]
I was a dancing fool and pretty sure danced off many of the extra calories consumed in wine and birthday cake
]
On Saturday, my father, husband and I (with a whopping hangover) drove to Milan Michigan where my father wanted to show me the property where our original family business, the Ideal Furnace Company, had been. We got lucky and bumped into a friendly guy who shared some stories about what had happened since the company closed in 1960 and had some nifty relics and newspaper clippings to share with us.
]
My last day was Sunday, mother’s day. My mother is in poor health with clinical depression, dementia, and tremendous pain from crumbling bones from osteoporosis. This has caused a dramatic personality change, and my once cheerful mom now hates just about everyone and everything, but luckily not me. I really wanted to see her this mother’s day as I had gone back for her 80th b-day 2 years ago, but hadn’t been with her on mother’s day for decades, plus , to be truthful, I’m not sure how long she will remember who I am. So it was a mother’s day to remember for sure. My understanding is that normally she won’t attend the brunch, but she did for a while this year. I had searched for just the right Mother’s day card, and when I sat by her and read it her, she got tears, which gave me tears! I was so glad I had persisted to find the right card
Now if this was a fairy tale, it would end here. But since it is reality TV, unfortunately, as in many families, there was some turbulence, drama and hurt feelings later that day and evening
]
So, Bob and I flew the friendly skies back to Sunny Tucson just in time the next morning :happy:0 -
sneaking in at work cause MFP went all wonky on my phone for some reason.. SO GLAD I DID!!
roflmao @ the ..... umm.... last pic!!!! will write more later re your post Susan.. but omg HOW i can relate!!!!!0 -
Susan, I agree with Snoozie it was just the thing I needed after a long extra chatty group today. Looks like you had an almost perfect time.
Carol, I don't know why I didn't think of the consignment shops other than I do lots of online shopping. Sounds like a good plan.
Snoozie may your night be fast and peaceful and then pleanty of restful sleep.
Kathy we have been really enjoying the weather this week until tonight tornados in the forcast. The daughter graduates tomorrow night so we are hoping all is past and over by then, but if not we will be inside at least. Out son and his girlfriend (from Vancover) flew in today for the event so the little one is more than excited. It will be a good visit.
I wish everyone a great weekend now as we will be busy.0 -
Thank you for sharing your story Susan. It looks like a great party, nice viist with Mom & such fun researching the family history. Those are them memories to keep close to your heart. Every family has it's drama, just hold your head high & take it from it's source.
Here is a quote from Mother Teresa that I just love.
"People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”
I had it posted by my desk at work & it was the most important item I took when I cleaned out my desk.
Kathy0 -
Kathy- thank you so much for sharing that wonderful quote. I printed it out and will keep it visible. I am pretty good at keeping the source in mind when drama happens, it's just that I was put right in the middle of something that no matter what I chose to do it was going to hurt somebody, and it did, which upsets me because it was soooo unnecessary, and I truly believe in kindness. But this, too, shall pass, and I love being able to focus on wiser words from wiser good hearted people. And it was such a great trip in every other way! On another note, I am really, really sorry about your situation. I can only hope that this is a turning point in your life which leads you to an even better job and situation as these things so often do. I'm glad you can find some comfort in Mother Theresa's words. I also find focusing on such wisdom helps give shelter through the storms. You are a strong, wonderful woman, and I believe as sh$&@ty as things are now, your future's so bright you gotta wear shades:-) hang in there and let me know if there is anything I can do to help in any way.
Carol- sorry I have been amiss with eBay tips. For what my 2 cents is worth, if you have a consignment shop that works for you, I think that is the easier path to take. I wish I had a good one here.
Ladies- speaking of eBay, I am going to be posting a bunch of barely worn Talbots and Coldwater Creek and Eileen Fisher summer sweaters and some skirts and jackets if you know of anyone who wears a 2 x and may be interested . My ebay name is Porsche_02 .
Hope everyone does something wonderful for themselves this weekend- we deserve it !!0 -
Kathy...
love a Random Act of Kindness.....
printed and posted....

Susan, wow what a party. very familiar with family drama.
Kathy, lovely reminders of what our lives should really be. And it is great to see you and Snoozie out walking in whatever "spring" weather you have been getting.
TA, the great thing about the same students is that when you all go back for next year, since they won't see you for 2 months, they will really notice how "small" you will be. We were so lucky last week with storns breaking and going around the graduation site, I hope you have the same luck.
Carol, another great thing about taking things to the consignment shop is who knows what you will find when you deliver the clothes!
Hatters everywhere enjoy the springtime, no matter how bizarre the weather may be!
I had over 1800 exercise calories today! Feelng a little wiped out right now. Janet0 -

Aww, thank you everyone for all your support. I am trying to take a little time to figure out the direction life will take me. My 85 yo mother who tends to be high maintance as you know, seems to have taken my current work situation well. When I first told her gave me "this will not sound good on your resume", but now seems to understand the situation the unfairness of it and actually seems to enjoy seeing me at home. I have been now able to get done some items that were defered maintance on the house. All will be helpfull when it comes time to downsize or rent out the appartment. For now I need to take it one day at a time.
Carol, absolutley want to see a before/after photo.
Susan, a big thank you sent your way for adding the photos and graphics for us. They add a chuckle to my day every time I log in to read the latest posts.
I volunteered at the church thrift shop yesterday & then my dear boy friend helped me take down a small tree that was shading the area where I am having a garden. No formal exercise, but that small tree provided lots of calorie burn in the form of cutting & hauling the brush off. Lets hope I have a fruitfull garden. It may sound crazy, but I have allways enjoyed weeding (when I had the time) and think of the exercise and fresh veggies I will get from my efforts.
Well the sun is starting to shine & they are calling for unsettled weather for the next few days, so it is time to head out on my walk, then to church. Hope everyone has a wonderfull day and although I have not met any of you in person you all hold a special place in my heart.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Kathy0 -
Kathy, thanks for mentioning the place we hatters hold in your heart! I think we each agree, even when we are quiet.
Home alone-rare now that the two post-grads are here. and it is raining, so no excuses, lots to do around this messy house! hopefully I will be burning calories while getting crap done!0 -
Hi Ladies...
As requested, take a look in my profile pics....

the blue swimsuit is from August 2012 - at about 187 lbs (16 misses)
Fast forward to May 2013 now about 176 - 177 lbs .... wearing size 16 top size 14 pant... will do a pic when we have time...

Thanks again for everything...
Carol

Snoozie -
It's from October 2012 - Brian's Eagle Court of Honor. Didn't want to have the swimsuit - leaving that in the profile pics instead..."giggles".....
I will also post the pic with all 3 of us in my profile pics....
Still waiting to do a true "after".....
Carol0 -
Good morning Hatters!
Looks like its a busy wekk for all; a little quiet in the group but wanted to pop in before heading out with my senior friend for the day and touch base with my peeps!!
Janet you have your formal "do" coming up tomorrow if I recall? so just wanted to say "wear the heels, carry the sandals and have a BLAST... and get pics! " You're gonna look amazing and can't wait to hear and see all about it!
Tammy - dare I ask.. is this the last week for you?? are you freeeeeee soon?? Always thought as a kid "schools out!" were the sweetest words ever next to Santa Claus is coming to town lol.. but never thought of itfrom the teacher's perspective - I imagine the same thrill happens to you!
Susan - I thought of your mountains yesterday - was watching some travel show that I THINK showed them, and then was talking with a friend who went to Airzona two years ago... anyone else notice now when someone mentions somewhere one of our Hatters live.. you immediately think of them?? Doesn't matter theres half a million people in the same state/country/province whatever.. its like hey I know someone in ...wherever?? it is indeed a small world in some ways!
Gail you've been rocking the exercise I've noticed... and you mentioned you break it up between your breaks and lunch? I read a study/survey thing not long ago that said 10 min of exercise 3x a day is just as good for you as sustained 30 min of activity.. and you have made such a great committment to doing it. you must be so proud of yourself girl!!
Carol hope things are well in your world; any big plans for the weekend? I always think of you when I see the ads for Zumba on TV... wish I was co-ordinated enough to get through a class!
Leslye - how are things going with the chemo? Only one more treatment left if I remember? I know you've been a little bummed with a wee weight gain after the last one but darlin' it's a nothing in the big picture... as Bis and a few others said, the important thing right now is getting thru this chemo and then I know you'll drop the wee weight in a heartbeat and we'll all be here to help and cheer you on!
Bis: how you doing girl? hope the weather picks up soon so you can get out and about and enjoy your walks again!
Hope and Lynne and Kobiemom and Tonya and Gsp 'et al' - miss you guys but hope all is well in your worlds - drop in when you get a sec and let us know how you're doing - we understand completely after life getting crazy busy (Hope I laughed at your comment about May/June gonna do you in with socializing.. we're all going to face that over the summer and perhaps should re investigate ways to stay on track during all the summer patio / party moments??
Better attempt to get human and get moving.. I just saw some 80 year old guy climbed Mt Everest, so I guess I don't really have ANY excuse at all to skip my exercise??0 -
As you all know, I was in Michigan over mother's day, so missed it with my own son. Consequently, we celebrated last Sunday. I was and still am so touched by the card he gave me that I wanted to share it, and he would probably kill me if I shared it on facebook, so decided to share it with my Hatter friends

Susan...
That made me smile....
As you know I have an 18 yr old "who knows it all and isn't afraid to tell you so"....:grumble: there is light at the end of the tunnel... hopefully not a train coming for me....giggles....:laugh:
btw he's in Florida now for his senior class trip... and of course I asked Disney if I could leave him there, they said no... doggone return policy......
