Hello. New here. Need help.

Hi I am Nise. My husband and I are starting the atkins diet on Monday and I also will be starting the Jillian Michaels body revolution dvds. I have a WICKED sweet tooth and absolutely HATE water. I work at a nursing home on the graveyard shift. That being said....are we allowed to drink water with lemon and splenda? Does anyone have any ideas as to what to have when I have a sweet craving? ( I read that the mount olive sweet pickles were acceptable and sf jello) Any ideas as to how to curb my late night work cravings? Are protein shakes allowed? I know it is a lot of questions lol, but I want to be absolutely prepared for this on Monday! As my husband always says piss poor planning promotes piss poor performance! I want to be sure to have everything that we need to do this right on Monday! Any help would be appreciated thank you!

Hi Nise. I was always really bad at drinking water until I started infusing it. Just fill a pitcher or large water bottle with filtered water and add lemon or lime slices and let it sit overnight. Lemon, mint leaves, and cucumber is one of my favorites. Your sweet tooth might go away after avoiding sugar a few days. The less artificial sweetener I use, the less I crave sweets it seems. I'd read the jar on the sweet pickles. They are usually pretty high in carbs unless they come in sugar free.

anHi and welcome to this great forum. There are lots of things you can learn here and lots of great ideas to help with the low carb WOE (way of eating). If you are doing induction, you need to keep your net carbs at no more than 20. You aren't allowed any fruit and veggies are limited to a few cups of salad and one serving of another vegetable. You can use sweeteners like Stevia or Splenda, but try to limit them if you really need to use them at all. The beginning will be a bit rough, but after a while you will not be craving those carbs and sugar. I used hemp protein powder in my morning smoothie. Just be careful about carbs and sugars in the protein powder you are using. What really got me through the beginning was string cheese and eggs. Other good snacks are deli meat wrapped around pickle spear (no sugar pickle!), jerky, cream cheese stuffed celery. Best of luck to you both

I assume you have a good text that will help you on the planning. I didn't use Atkins directly, I used Gary Taubes Good Calories Bad Calories. I know a lot of folks go pretty extreme on the low carbs, as low as 20 grams a day. I don't go that far and still get good results. I do track NET CARBS using MFP so for that reason you will want to add Fiber to your Diet Profile so you can quickly get your NET Grams of Carbs (i.e. Gross Grams of Carbs minus Gross Grams of Fiber = Net Carbs). That may help. but basically I average Net Carbs in the mid 50's and lose about 1-2 lbs a week when I'm tracking carefully. when I first started i was more extreme and my wife and I got rapid weight losses of 10 lbs for myself and I think my wife dropped 40. she did really well.

important though to eat enough fats and protein that you are getting enough nutrition. some people think that by reducing caloric intake or eating fewer calories AND fewer grams of carbs that it will somehow work faster but the body in that instance sees it as fasting and the metabolism slows and you lose no weight at all. so stick with the book you must be using and be sure to follow it.

I use Truvia as my sweetner but suppose Splenda is ok. I also use Almond milk instead of cows milk. other than that, it's pretty straightforward. good luck.
