Susan love the card & TY for sharing, I can relate in many ways. My 19 yo son treated his grandmother and I to lunch on Mother's day. Not a fancy restaurant, but none the less it was a treat to be appreciated and yes they will allways need their mothers. I heard the other day my son was talking about money and stated he needed to discuss an idea with "his financial advisor" meaning me. I must be doing something right for him to respect my opinion.

Continued threats of rain here in NE is still hindering my ability to be outside as much as I would like. We did get the garden tilled today between the rain drops. Planting will need to wait for a few days, as we have 2 days of steady rain ahead of us. I am so looking foreward to tending the garden, benifiting from the fresh air, exercise and fruits fo my labor.

Carol, Love the pictures & thank you for sharing. Slow & steady wins the race. I have not been to Disney since my son was very young. What is your favorite area? Last time I went to Florida I went to the Keys, but suspect a trip to Disney will be in my future within the next year as my BF wants to bring his grand kids. Fill me in on what not to miss.

Kathy and Susan, what nice Mother's Day stories. thanks for sharing. Kathy, how old are BF's grandkids? Disney recommendations depend on ages. of both the children and adults. I think I speak for a lot of hatters when I say naps are good for everyone!
I am sending 2 pics for Susan, aka, our picture lady to post. My ticker reports my shedding 88 pounds >that is my MFP total. But my heaviest was 120 pounds ago. I had such a wonderful time at the formal function and seeing Bob in his tux reminded me of an earlier time when he wore that tux. the picture of me at 307 pounds is not very clear but it is clear enough to tell the story. The 2nd picture is 2 nights ago, the dress is from my fav consignment shop and the jacket is from goodwill. I am wearing my "formal flip flops" that are embellished with gold shells. I started in the gold heels, but I barely made it to the car!

Janet... OMG WOWWWWWWWWWW! Fabulous, fabulous pics ..... you look amazing and beyooootiful and so so happy!!!!

(Susan... you are an absolute gem to do these pics for us .....thank you so so much!!)

Trapped at home waiting for delivery of my new bed... three hour window and being in a condo, I had to book the elevator times..but if my usual luck prevails it'll be in the last five minutes of the time frame lol. Burned off some calories though clearing out the bedroom and attacking the dust bunnies under the bed... and decided to take out all the big windows and clean them as well and found a few books i had forgotten about tho so scored a treat and burned some cals!

Bis... great work on getting the garden tilled... hope the weather turns soon so you can get at the fun part!! Its *****ing cold and windy here for the next few days but its almost June.. the warm weather HAS to show up soon! I havent been to Disney since I was a kid, well I went to downtown Disney a few years ago while I was in Fla but just to walk around and people watch... so I'm not much help!

Susan - what a beyoootiful card... and what a great son!! Sounds like you have done a super job my dear of raising that kid - suspect its just about the hardest job there is turning munchkins into good people so well done you and all the other moms!

Going to peer out the window again for the truck... yes I know a watched pot never boils... lol

Janet, OMG you look fabulous! Your dress is perfect & you are glowing. What a transformation, I would not have recognized you. I am sure you had a wonderful time.

Snooozie,I know you will sleep well tonight in your new bed. It is quite a chore to move the furniture and do the heavy cleaning, but also provides us with a huge sense of accomplishment to get these chores done.

It has still been dreary & raining here, so I am still stuck indoors. Being a holiday weekend I have my friend from Boston coming for a visit. The guest room is all made up in anticipation of her arrival. If we have a window of clear weather we will get out for a walk & to tour the local vineyard. Lila loves to play Dominos, so there is likely to be a tournament going on if we can not be outside. Then on Sunday my BF's family will be joining us for a cook out (and eat in as it is still to be cool & rainy).

Susan, I hope you are feeling better. Sinus infections are no fun, but I am sure after a couple of days you will be on the mend. You are such a doll for posting those pictures for everyone. I wish there was some way we could do something for you..

Well, being Friday it is my date night. I am off to diiner with my BF John. Tonight just staying in he will cook dinner & we will watch a movie. It is my one night to have a not so healthy meal & just relax.

Wishing you all a good evening. Kathy

Oh all the pics are so inspirational !!! Love the dress Janet !!!

Picked the first batch of green beans yesterday morning from our garden and hoed for what seemed forever !!! My arms and backside are sore this morning but not going to let that stop me. We have about 5 rows to be completely done with the hoeing and its so much easier to do when you do it often that I am determined to get it done at least by tomorrow. Then going to kick those my exercise program into gear later today.

I had the oldest daughter do my measurements Saturday so that I can track them as I up the exercise. I did reflect on the numbers this past year and over all I have lost 45 inches. I have to say this is helping remind me to stay focused.

I am still not losing but I have not been so strict with my eating and yet I haven't gained wish I feel is good. It has been more enjoying things that I don't usually include in my daily eating but practicing portion control when eating the item rather than thinking I have to eat as much as I can b/c I won't be eating it again for a long time. I am pretty sure some of you know what I am talking about. More of that learning to maneuver through real life situations without making ourselves feel deprived.

Now that I am done with work for the summer the plan is to kick up the exercise and to be more practical about eating choices again now that end of the year celebrations are over with. I am FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE let the exercise begin.

All of you ladies are a true inspiration. I have been a total slacker and in just a down right "I don't give a rat's" attitude. During the long weekend I had time to reflect and doing some serious butt kicking of myself. I do need to take time for me, I do need to eat better and most of all I need to spend time with YOU. I need this more than anything so here's to a better June.

    Ladies...

    I know you can relate...

Had my girl check-ups today... good news (waiting for official results from the doc - they review the films tomorrow)... I get to keep my girls for another year..... yeah! but based on "size" anyone want them? giggles....:blushing:

Also had the "other exam" and of course based on today's number up a couple of lbs based on lack of water intake and things having not flushed away... :grumble:
my GYN gave me a hand out on "the plate"... but then I also told him about MFP and that I've lost overall 45 lbs... (love to round up you know)... since July 2011... and he gave me a "congrats" with a smile...
so I'm counting that as a NSV...

Going to consignment on Thursday... getting rid of "It doesn't look good or fit or am just tired of it"...

    Wish me luck....

    Hi ho Hatters!

Popping in for a quick catch up; been late leaving work every day (Tammy - I think of you every single time!) and having one of those weeks where there just doesnt seem to be enough time in the day to do everything .. and yet I dont seem to be accomplishing all that muh LOL.. in any case going to grab a sandwich for dinner and will come back after, but had a chance to catch up on the board and in here - and start thinking about my goal for June - my May goal is to do 30 min a day and even tho I missed 4 days out of 28 so far, I am still pleased with my results because I've never managed to sustain exercise of any kind or this long yet lol.... and realize its just like my eating.. small changes will lead to big results.... and altho i may slip along the way, that path is always there for me to choose to retiurn to exactly where i stepped off.. guilt free and no reriminations just a dust off and right back at it next day... its been a hard mental switch after all those years of berating myself for "blowing" a diet or "failing" again at an exercise plan... when all i had to realize was to forgive myself as easily as i would forgive a friend, and just start again.!!! pick up right where i left off.. whether it was an hour and a bag of chips later, or a week and a few dinners out, or whatever.. I think im finally learning that it doesnt have to be that complicated - but it does have to be about what's best for ME. And I'm finding more often I WANT to eat good food, and I want to move every day..because I WANT to be healthy.. and yes I know I'm supposed to have wanted that from the start lol.. but to be honest at the beginning it was all about losing weight.. and having to eat a certain way to do that. there was still a sense of deprivation Over the time I've been here and learned from all of you and learned about myself tho, the past few weeks it seems as tho that switch has flipped in my head to where I'm enjoying healthier foods and find myself seeking them out willingly lol... part of that may have been my decision that I will never ever eat anything again that I hate just because its good for me. ( Greek yogurt will never pass my lips again.. and I'm perfectly happy with that decision LOL.. ) bUT THIS month it really feels like everything is starting to "click"... who'd a thunk it? lol

off to make a sandwich then come back for a few more.. but Tammy - YIPPEEEEEE FREEDOM!!!!!!!!! woo hoo!!
and I have to say when I read your line "It has been more enjoying things that I don't usually include in my daily eating but practicing portion control when eating the item rather than thinking I have to eat as much as I can b/c I won't be eating it again for a long time. I " I thought OMG .. that's it exactly!! THANK you for sharing that!!

k.. now im starving lol... back in a flash!

Well, Mother nature finally flipped that swich and replaced a week of cold rainy weather with 2 beautiful spring days so far this week and summer weather to follow by the end of the week. I was able to finish getting my garden planted & take my visiting friend for a nice walk along the river before taking her to meet the afternoon train to return to Boston.

Tammy, mmm fresh beans. I hope in my small garden I am able to get some nice fresh vegtables. You have a much longer growing season than we do and must have a huge garden. What a great way to get your fresh air and exercise! Congrats at being out of school for the summer. We had so many snow days for the kids to make up that they are going to school untill June 26th this year.

Gail, I was also class of 78, My reunion is in August, I hear a clam bake on the beach is planned. I am not sure if I will attend. Keep me posted on how yours goes, so I may decide if I attend mine. Thank you for the thoughts. I am ok, the initial shock of my situation has now settled down & I have decided to take it as an opportunity to take a respite from work for a bit to enjoy the summer. At 53 I have worked since I was 15, The only time I have not worked longer than 1 week for a vacation was during the 3 months I took off post my sons birth 19 years ago. Who knows, maybe I will decide to go back to school. I am confident things will be ok.

Carol, best of luck with the consignment shop. I do think this will work best for you.

Snooozie, a big IPOU for your revelation. All choices in life are only for the moment. To exercise 24 out of 28 days!! Excellent work!!!

Seehee, we have not heard from you in a few days. Are you feeling better? Let us know.

    Good evening ladies,

I have someone that would like to join our group but have no idea who that works so I am posting her page below if someone could send an invite please. I stumbled across her topic and she sounded like one of us so I sent a message asking if she would be interested.

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/chatogal

So supper was yummy but as most times I made a couple of changes to the recipe which I included also

GARLIC & LEMON CHICKEN W/GREEN BEANS & RED POTATOES!

    INGREDIENTS
6 tablespoons olive oil ( used part sesame oil )
2 lemons, 1 thinly sliced, 1 juiced (if they are small you will need to use the juice of two lemons)
4 cloves garlic, minced ( 3 tbs of minced garlic)
    1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    3/4 pound trimmed green beans
    8 small red potatoes, quartered
4 chicken breasts (bones left in, with skin, about 3 1/4 pounds) ( used leg quarters skinned and all visible fat removed)

( I added two sliced onions - one to the pan with the lemon slices and the other in with the green beans and potatoes)

    DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400°F. Coat a large baking dish or cast-iron skillet with 1 tablespoon of the olive oil. Arrange the lemon slices in a single layer in the bottom of the dish or skillet.

In a large bowl, combine the remaining oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper; add the green beans and toss to coat. Using a slotted spoon or tongs, remove the green beans and arrange them on top of the lemon slices. Add the potatoes to the same olive-oil mixture and toss to coat. Using a slotted spoon or tongs, arrange the potatoes along the inside edge of the dish or skillet on top of the green beans. Place the chicken in the same bowl with the olive-oil mixture and coat thoroughly. Place the chicken, skin-side up, in the dish or skillet. Pour any of the remaining olive-oil mixture over the chicken.
Roast for 50 minutes. Remove the chicken from the dish or skillet. Place the beans and potatoes back in oven for 10 minutes more or until the potatoes are tender. Place a chicken breast on each of 4 serving plates; divide the green beans and potatoes equally. Serve warm.

Hey ladies, just wanted to let you all know that I am doing okay. We've just been SO busy these past couple of weeks. My baby graduated high school  , my oldest finally found a venue for her wedding in January, the house build is slowly moving forward (all the paperwork! :grumble: ) We hope to actually see ground broke within the next 2-3 weeks... My sister had a bad week last week, we had to admit her because she was so dehydrated from throwing up. Knock on wood... I'm doing okay this week. LAST treatment is next Thursday! WOO HOO! We'll see what happens after that...

At work, 3 days off I am so behind... will try to touch base again soon.

Leslye prayers for both you and your sister that you both feel better soon and that good news will be coming soon.

Yeah got caught up on all the garden hoeing !!! Now to keep up with it so that the grass doesn't get ahead of us again. I have cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, lima beans all blooming and should have fresh cherry tomatoes any day. We also have lots small tomatoes and blooms on the regular tomato plants. Hoping the cantaloupes will bloom soon. We are all excited to have fresh fruit and veggies soon.

I started my exercise plan Tuesday, so far I am three days in and haven't missed a day !!! Yeah

I am starting slow so I don't get sore but I am loving being back on the stationary bike. Years ago I rode daily (I was up to 40 miles) after taking the children to school until I the pedals came off twice. When the ex wouldn't replace them I gave it and and watching my weight up for a long time. I won't say I will get back to that many miles per day this time but I would like to get to 20 a day. I was completely surprised how quiet this one is, I can ride and watch the tv without turning the tv up to hear it. Certainly not the bikes of 30 years ago. Of course finding something that we like to do helps keep the motivation to exercise so I am hoping this will help and also motivate me to move from inside to outside. I use to ride bikes as a kid but when I was bitten by a dog I gave it up and never rode again. It just scares me thinking about it but I would like to ride with the little one.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday

    Kathy and Janet.....

Took 15 items into consignment today - 3 tops, 2 belts, and 11 pants (white jeans, color capris and a pair of shorts)..
I have 26 dollars on account - from the last time I went in.. keeping until I really need and other items sell......

But I also found out about another consignment shop - without as strict of a policy on how much or often you can bring in.. just a step up from goodwill - will also use that one to consign at..(for my not as nice items)...(I was actually told about this shop from the lady that works at the first shop) sshhh....

And the good news is that I did find some STRONG bargains....

consignment 1 - found 2 pair of chico pants (blue bermuda shorts size 2) and (one pair of gray/beige size 2.5 casual pants) + 1 blue baby cable sweater (from gap size L) all for $49

consignment 2 found 1 pair of light pink / kind of beige size 2.5 chico jeans for $7...

Wow Carol Wow... (just don't tell DH).....:noway: :ohwell:

    See you all soon...

Well, still battling this sinus infection, but hanging in there. I haven't been exercising cause of it, so not losing, but at least maintaining :-)

Snoozie- 24 out of 28 days of exercise- knock my socks of!!!! Go Snoozie go!!! I know what you mean about an attitude shift, too. It feels so much better to not feel deprived but rather to know that everything I desire is within me, and I choose to lead a healthy lifestyle

Tammy- good for you for getting a new bike and using it! Here's to you pedaling so much you need to get a new set again  I envy your gardening abilities. Your garden sounds fantastic!

Kathy and Gale- I was class of 78 as well LOL but my reunion just passed. It was in Massachusetts, and I'm in Tucson, so it was too difficult to make it, especially right after my Michigan trip. Plus with this sinus infection from flying, I'm not really in the mood to hop on a plane anytime soon!

Leslye- sounds like a busy time for you. I know what you mean about crying when your baby graduates from high school. When my only son moved out (although he is a boomerang child and has come back), it felt just awful. The whole year before he graduated from high school, I had his baby pictures all over my desk and house. My friend Carol cracked me up when after her son left for college, she had a life size photo of her son done and would put it in the dining room chair at dinner:laugh: On another note, I sure hope your sister feels better soon. And I am thinking of you today, Thursday, and even though it's a chemo day, you must be thrilled that it is the last-wahooo!

Carol- Glad you struck gold at the consignment shop!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend that is just around the corner. Wondering what our theme is gonna be for June , which is also just around the corner!

thinking about a theme for June, the song popped in my mind "June is busting out all over" I don't think we want to use that!
Carol, congrats on getting organized and motivated enough to get things to the consignment shop. Once again, I am glad that we have different shops and are not fighting over the same clothes!
I am starting to feel like a bad mom, listening to the moms who are struggling with graduation times, when my kids went to college, I was happy. I just worried about them so much every time they got in a car and drove away. So when they were in college, I just thought of them as safe and snug in their dorms. Yes I know that wasn't reality but it let me survive college years for all 3 kids..
And all of you class of 78 ladies! I am feeling like the senior citizen of the group. I gave a class to a group of law clerks and when I was introduced, she mentioned that I had been with the office for 24 years. I could tell by all the eager young faces that they were thinking that was before they were even born.
This morning after body pump I went and played tennis with my son. Fortunately at 7:30 the court was in shade, We needed to move to the other court by 8 when the sun began to hit, hot and muggy, welcome to Baltimore summer!
Drink lots of water and think of a better June theme!

Yep - consignment is my friend - and yes Janet so glad we're not fighting over the same clothes...

I know what you mean about being one of the older ones - at my work most of the employees are in their mid 30s... with a few in the mid 40s and even fewer in the 50s.. (hitting the big 50 on 14 August...).....

So, today is Brian Jrs senior prom - he spent $95 on flowers, candy and a teddy bear - "couldn't go empty handed"... and yes, he will be very respectul to Kim and her family...
I'm actually going to his promenade at the school to take a few pics... and he's going to buy another $70 package.. plus the tux was another $90 - but he didn't rent the shoes, instead is wearing a pair of "nicer work boots"... hopeully he won't step on her toes.....
she's wearing a dark purple dress, and he has a matching tie... with a black vest.... tried to convince him to go with the purple vest, but not going to argue over what he's wearing... :grumble: "pick your battles"...

And on 21 June he graduates High School - wear does the time go???

    See you all soon....

Hope your tooth and tummy are doing better .
Oh, and I graduated college, not highschool in 78, so me thinks we r about the same age :-)
