Never meet target burn?

I have a "target" calorie burn of 2435 a day. Even when I exercise at the gym and make my 8000 steps, I rarely hit that target. Anybody else find this? I compensate by reducing my calorie intake--I'm wondering if it's just because I have a slow metabolism, or my heart rate isn't getting high enough when I exercise. Thoughts?

Have you set it for too large a loss?

What kind of numbers/hours (or minutes) are you getting for activity (both moderate and vig)? I find that my exercise (and I give it my all for at least 45 minutes/day) doesn't contribute alot to my overall daily calorie burn -- staying busy all day does it for me.

You may also have you weight loss goals hit to high and BMF does automatically (though you can change it) adjust for a higher calorie burn. I wouldn't be able to hit the numbers they suggest either unless I had about 5 hours worth of activity every single day.

Something BMF was using to set your goals was off. Could be the "How much are you eating?" question or general activity level. You shouldn't have to struggle everyday to meet your burn goal.

I would reset my goals. It would be very discouraging to be missing my calorie burn so often. In general, I struggle only one or two days a week to meet the goal and that is on days I'm not doing much of anything, certainly not working out. I pretty much always make the goal if I work out.

I would look at a summary report of the last few weeks and see what your average burn per day is. Then reset the goals in way that your average burn is that number.

I see what you mean. I think my problem is that I can't "stay busy all day" as I am a grad student. I have to read/study 8-10 hours a day, and that usually requires sitting still (I tried reading on the treadmill, but it made me nauseous). I guess I just need to work out harder/longer to make up for the hours of inactivity.
  • good idea, thanks, zlauermom, I'll look into that.
