Mixing YAYOG with weights -anyone?

When I started YAYOG, I was a purist and shunned the dumbbells. Maybe did a bit of Kettlebell but for me, weights were out. They did nothing but stress the joints and you learned to move external weights instead of your own bodyweight. I was sold on bodyweight as all I would need - as Mark Lauren says.

But those Let-me-ins did more for my thighs and butt than my lats and my tendons at the forearms felt like they were burning after chin-ups.

I switched from Let-me-ins, Let-me-ups and Chin-ups, to Let-me-ups and Chin-ups and finishing off with single arm dumbbell rows. Now I have increased the number of reps I can do in Chins and I have no tendon pain. My feeling is the inclusion of DB rows have gently strengthened the tendons so I am stronger in chin-ups.

Again, the is such a gap between squats, one leg squats and pistol squats but being able to use additional weight should make the transitions easier as strength increases.

I used to be a purist but I wonder how many bodyweighters use a balance of both BW and weights? I feel a little guilty but I am seeing better progress and having fun mixing it.

Any thoughts?

    Well, I can't speak for YAYOG and weights all that much, but I did mix it up with Tapout XT which uses resistance bands and I saw some pretty amazing results from that run.

    I've switched to weigth lifting fairly recently and have to say I really love doing it. I'm fairly certain mixing it up is a great way to get more results out of your body. There is probably even a few programs based on just that.

    Personally I still find using bodyweight exercises as either a warm-up or a "killer move" after a weight exercise is also a good way to go :) I throw in a dozen bodyweight squats before I get under the barbell. And as many push-ups as I can once I get out of underneath it after doing bench presses ;)

    Plus. all the training principles used in the YAYOG program (ladders, tabatas, pauses and tempo) can definitely be applied to weight lifting as well. I've been pondering on trying to do ladders at the gym eventually, especially these days where it's rather empty cuz it's summer, so no one can give me the stink eye for hogging the squat rack or bench for 8 minutes haha.
