Energy Gels

I just finished marathon training a few weeks ago, and i was consuming what felt like tons of energy gels. I used the Clif Shot Blocks and Clif Gels. Those I KNOW are both vegan.
Anyone else have any favorites? I heard something about making your own gels out of chia seeds? has anyone done this?

I use clif shots and shot blocks, too. Brendan Brazier has some bars in his Thrive book but I haven't tried them.
Does anyone know if Gu gels are vegan? The last I heard was that the aminos in them were likely animal-sourced so I avoid them.0 -
My fav blogger, No Meat Athlete, says GU isn't "stickily vegan" here: http://www.nomeatathlete.com/energy-gel/
The amino acids are animal based. Boo!0 -
In reference to Brendan...Vega Sport produces a plant-based endurance gel...Raspberry is awesomeness!:smile0

I love Vega's gels and am in agreement that the raspberry ones are awesome0

in regard to making your own gels--this is not a gel, more like an energy block but it looks really good and made from whole foods Rice cakes:
personally I would stay away from chia seeds as they are high in protein.0
