A bourbon protein shake actually sounds yummy. Or rum.

I have been known to add a shot of bourbon or Irish whiskey to my protein shakes. I don't actually make them with all booze but a splash or a shot added is delicious. Also, tequila with Trutein orange dreamsicle.......... mmmmmmm

If there was a drooling smiley....I would add it now because that sounds fantastic. My love for chocolate, peanut butter and beer are rolled into one? Sweet baby jesus is right.

This one maybe - but this is re drinking alcohol after.

    http://jap.physiology.org/content/83/4/1152.abstract?

“There appears to be no difference in recovery from dehydration whether the rehydration beverage is alcohol free or contains up to 2% alcohol, but drinks containing 4% alcohol tend to delay the recovery process.”

Might not be relevant to OP as these were untrained subjects on a cardio interval routine. The experiment does sound like torture--using an exercise bike in a room heated to 34 C with 65% humidity after having emptied one's bladder "as completely as possible" and not being allowed to drink anything for 3 hours before exercise... And then getting a beer to rehydrate.

But I did enjoy this sentence in the abstract: "Peak urine flow rate occurred later (P = 0.024) with the 4% beverage." Kind of reminded me of this:

As a craft beer lover myself, I highly doubt that continuing to drink your 500 cals a night will have very noticible negative effects. Maybe I'm being naive for the justification of my own beer habits tho. haha

I had read that drinking alcohol can harm your recovery, as Sara pointed out with a similar article a few posts back. The article I read a couple years ago was refering to drinking in excess tho. Like a night of binging after a cardio session, when your body is already dehydrated.

It may slow your process a bit, but would giving up a delicious Black IPA be worth it? I think not. :drinker:

Interesting. I do drink water before, during and after my workout. I average about 72ounces of water from just before, to just after the workout. The beer comes about an hour after I've finished. Hopefully that helps ward off some/all of the dehydrating effects.

So I actually tried the Trutein Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup with this brew: http://21st-amendment.com/beers/back-in-black/.

And you know... it wasn't bad. The first sip was a little odd, but by the end I was thinking "Hey, this is all right!" LOLOL

It probably won't supplant my favorite CPBC mixer though: cold coffee. Seriously, a scoop in 8 oz of cold coffee is absolutely the bomb. Try it if you have that flavor. It's incredibly tasty.

I am not about to mix 21st Amendment with protein powder... but I am curious--how did you do it? I use a martini shaker to mix my protein powder with whatever liquid, but it's never carbonated. Or does Trutein dissolve without mixing? Is it that magical? [head explodes in wonder]

Yes, I just stirred it with a fork and it dissolved quite well. It does increase the foam factor however!

Trutein is easily the easiest mixing powder I've tried. And the best tasting. You owe it to yourself to try their stuff if you haven't before. They sell samples too btw.

I'm thinking of trying a black and tan with some chocolate whey and an IPA.

    Best thread. Ever.

I have some chocolate peanut butter cup powder in the cabinet. And some Deschute's Black Butte Porter in the fridge. Maybe a weekend experiment? :drinker:

Any Sweet Baby Jesus is a MD brew? You think they sell it in WV; I will be going back in a couple months?

Yup, MD microbrew. We actually have a lot of them that are really good. I know DuClaw's doesn't have any of their own establishments in WV but not sure if they sell in stores there. We have a HUGE store in the Baltimore area that even sells them by the bottle if you want to go for a drive. :) They make a bunch .. http://www.duclaw.com/beers.aspx.

Flying Dog is good too and they are based in Frederick so maybe more options closer to WV. http://flyingdogales.com/

I've seen Flying Dog in WV....think I got a variety pack of that last year, but gave it to my father in law, while I clung onto the Yuengling. That stuff is impossible to find in WA!
