SelecTech Weights

Sorry if this has been covered, but I just purchased the Bowflex Selectech 552 dumbells (the one's Chalene uses) for CLX and was wondering if anyone else has them. Are they worth the price (got them with free shipping and $50 off from bowflexselectech.ca)? Quality? Bulkiness?

I've read mostly great reviews, but also a few that have me worried. Thanks, guys!

I have the Select Techs and LOVE them. I do not find them bulky at all and find the grip very comfortable. I also love the small amount of space they take up. I would not be without them. I really cant say enough. Hope that you love them too!!!

    Hi!

I've had mine for a month and love them! They're perfect for switching between CLX exercises. I don't think they're bulky but I like having a more solid weight. The grips are perfect sized and I could actually lift more because the grip is thicker than my old set and my forearms don't tire as quickly. You do have to be gentle with them when racking them since the pins can get loose if you're too rough (like beyond normal use rough). I look forward to the CLX circuits just so I get to use my Select Techs :) You made a great choice with this set!

I just bought some & used them for the 1st time today. The workout was much harder since I was able to "dial in" the correct weight. I'm looking forward to using these!!!

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to hear I seemed to have made the right choice! I can't wait to get them and start using them! I'm so sore already, I'm a little scared to see just how sore I will get once I have no excuses to lift more than 15 lbs!

It was one of my best investments. I love the versatility and the space saving of the equipment. It has helped me tremendously with doing CLX more effectively. I was using the resistance bands the 1st week & I felt I was not doing the exercises properly.

I've had mine for months now and I still love them. They are the best investment I have made fitness wise. I highly recommend them!

I wanted to follow-up on my post. I finally got the selectech weights! Although, I do find them a bit large (but you do get used to them), they definitely make my workouts more effective! I have been lifting much heavier since getting them and getting more out of my CLX workouts! Definitely happy with my decision! Thanks ladies!

Sports Authority Black Friday Ad has "leaked" and Selec Tech weights will be about $259 dollars IIRC.

I purchased mine thru Amazon for $299...they are a little odd to handle at first, but you do get used to them.

Would you say that it's harder to hold them close to your body b/c the shape is larger or is it because the length of the bar is longer?

My coworker has a set and he says they are quite large and long.

He also says to take care when setting them down so you don't jar the slider. Have you found this to be true?

I got the Bayou ones because they were way cheaper than the SelecTech, but having adjustable weights is so nice. I don't find mine too long or awkward (they're pretty much the same size as the SelecTech) and you move so slowly with the exercises it's very easy to adjust so that you don't knock yourself in the head or hip or wherever. It's strange at first, but not something that should put you off them imo. Remember that Chalene is 5'2", so if she can move easily with them, I think that most people can. They're a great space saver. Just get some gloves to go along with them. Even with the SelecTech rubber handle you can get some pretty good friction.

I love my select techs!!! I bought them instead of my kitchenaid mixer last year. A great decision, (although I WILL have my mixer soon!) :) You do have to be careful with them, but why would you want to be throwing them around anyway?? The only thing I can't fully agree with is that I love the grips. I did at first but after lifting for a long while, my hands started to hurt, so I invested in a pair of lifting gloves. Either way, they are great and totally worth the investment!!

I always wear gloves to lift. I used to go to the gym and it would gross me out touching everyone elses sweat... LOL!
