Hope you all enjoyed your rest day! :)
I know I did, I am very stiff in various places, but feeling good!

Instead of pull ups, I just did push ups, girly ones too, my goal on these is to be able to do a proper push up before the end of the first 4 weeks!

Really feeling it in the muscles! But feel like my reps were stronger and more concentrated than monday's arms.

How did it go for you?

no cables for a tricep cable curl at my gym so I did some extensions instead, assisted dip and chin ups, db side raises and tricep pull down, was good. Seemed to be over pretty quickly so I threw in some crunches and a couple of core moves, eliptical warm up and a few mins on the bike before stretching out.

I hate dips lol I'm pretty sure my shoulders will kill later on. Feel good to be nearing the end of week one and sticking to the schedule so far.

How long is is taking everyone else to complete?

So did push ups instead of pull ups, also did it the girly way! Did only 2kg on the db side lateral the 7kg was way too heavy for that.

Did db tricep pressdown and db curls. The last 2 I did with 7kg. It was tough.

I will probably do some walking today again for some cardio

    Happy Thursday everyone
  • bought a new bar last night... going to kill on the dead lifts

I know I'v been slacking off but will hopefully join you guys in full swing next week.. doing some *kitten* burning runs tonight.. (hopefully burning off last nights pizza :blushing: )

    Great going everyone!

My workouts last about 20min for upper body and 30min for lower body.
But I stretch it out lol. Jumping jacks between sometimes. Rest for 1minute about. But it feels so short for me!

How long are your rest periods between each rep/set?

Marise29: Keep at it, there is someone else on here who is also starting a bit later, JesSainz
Perhaps you two can kick eachothers *kitten* into gear? She is on the Welcome!! topic discussion in the group :flowerforyou:

My rest periods are between 1-2 minutes, usually, unless I'm working a particularly difficult set (i.e. squats), but rest no more than three minutes on those.

My upper body seems to take less time (about 30-ish minutes) than my lower body, which took me about 50 minutes on Tuesday. Have to take another look at today's upper body to see what I'm in for, LOL...I have to do my pull-ups in my house because the pull up bar doesn't fit the door frames in my studio, where the rest of the equipment is, so I'll be knocking those out first, which is good, because I hate them, LOL...Hard even with the assistance bands, but I do them, because my goal is to be able to do at least ONE unassisted by the end of the year.

Maybe Marise and Jes can start Monday, which puts them one week behind us, which isn't bad at all. :flowerforyou:

You ladies are getting it done!

Are y'all taking "before" pictures so that you have something to compare each month?

I'm resting about 1 min in between sets. I am mostly struggling with getting motivated to do cardio, I'm really not a big fan and almost feel like it's a chore!!

I am going to take pics every 4 weeks as then it's a nice length of time to see some progress. Keep it up everyone you're all doing great :flowerforyou:

I try not to rest more than 30 seconds, usually long enough to have a drink and shake out a little bit.

I'm not a fan of cardio all the time though I do like to have a run. I struggle to motivate myself for very long on cross trainer or bikes now. Booo-ring!

So now that we are almost at the end of week 1, what does everyone think about lifting so far?

I am totally excited to really make this a long term goal, Ive seen enough pics of girls who lift heavy and they look great! (NO BULKING) lol

I feel more motivated to do it that I ever was with Jillian.
    I just feel good too!

Yes totally agree, I love having to push myself for the last couple of reps.

Just can't wait to see results I'm so not patient :ohwell:

Holy crap! I feel like I could throw a small car! 42 minutes from start to finish, and threw in a set of empty bar overhead presses:

Pull-ups (with assistance bands) 3x10 (which, I might add, has NEVER happened before!)

Dips - 3x8 (never done those before, and was surprised that I could!)

    DB Side Lats, 10# - 3x9

Bent Tri Extensions (Replacing Triceps Press Downs) 10# - 3x10 each side
Seated Tri Extensions, one 10# db, to add to Tri work - 3x12

    Barbell curl, 45# - 3x10

    OHP 45# - 3x6

Julie you using 10 pound dumbells?

Kerry I also feel the same, its like the muscles are just stronger and better under the fat! lol.
Maybe it is just in our heads, but dang I feel good about it so nothing wrong with that!

Anyone else noticing a small boost in confidence?

    Good morning, Ladies...

I skipped my early morning cardio because I just couldn't get out of the bed. I'll make it up either tonight walking the dogs or tomorrow on the elliptical, LOL...That said...

Yes...I have those adjustable dumbbells and the plates, so I can and or subtract weight as I need it.

And yes, I think that you are seeing definition, because what happens when you are new to strength training is what they call "newbie gains" and it basically is that your muscles are used to not being utilized the way that you have been this week and it's like they are waking up and paying attention, so while you're burning calories (and the associated body fat), the muscles are kind of "perking up" if you will. I know that's not the most scientific explanation, but I noticed the same thing when I started picking up the heavy things.

Here's a link to a newbie gains thread I found that might help.

I love those! They are so cool! I am going shopping this weekend! Hoping I can find some at Makro/Game they usually have gym equipment. Will probably be most cost effective that having 5 sets of dumbells lying around lol.

Thanks for the link Julie, Charissa also look at Mr Price they have weights and may be cheaper. I am wanting to buy the evox protein powder, put off by the cost but if I get a 2kg one then it should last me 2 months. I am nearing the end of the USN one. I heard Evox tastes better. Anyone else tried it?
