Can I do EMWL and low carb same time (paleo)

The title says it all.... I am gluten free and have been doing paleo ( healthy whole foods, no grains, good fts) for a while. I feel great but haven't lost weight I think because I set may calories too low (1200). If I do a metabolism reset and start eating this way can I still do it low carb or does that defeat the purpose? I saw the recommendation to set carbs at 40% but that seems so high.

You can, sure. But rather than keep carbs below some gram level, let them float higher during the reset time, 150 g shouldn't be bad, probably could go higher if you eat the protein and fats in any meal first.
Then again could keep them right where they are at if you want to get that much more protein, or make up the difference in healthy fats.0 -
I agree, you can of course go low carb, but especially if you are lifting as well, your body would benefit from healthy carbs.
But it's entirely up to you. As long as you eat enough, you should be ok0 -
Yes you absolutely can! When I first started EM2WL I was eating very low carb as was my norm. I've eaten low carb Paleo the past 3 years...along with a VLCD. I will say, however, that in the past 2 months I have increased my carbs quite a bit. I'm still hovering anywhere between 100 and 150 grams a day, while trying to aim for 150 now, it's still difficult to do when you don't eat grains. I'm finding it easier and easier on my body to add a bit more. I just wanted to say how much better I am feeling physically and especially in the gym with the weights. I feel like a beast!
Right now I have my carbs set to 30% (that's 150 grams for me) and I have no plans of ever getting it up to 40%...at least not right now. That just sounds like carb overkill. But, you absolutely can adjust your macros to fit your needs!0 -
Hi there,
I have been gluten and dairy free for the past two years and also eat a paleo/whole foods diet. Actually, I tried to reincorporate dairy during the beginning part of my reset and THAT was a personal mistake. However, I do agree with other responders that the higher carb intake has been really helpful and I am sorry for how long I was eating lo carb with the paleo. I was often tired, especially on lifting days. Now I keep my carbs lowish (around 150 max) and I feel a lot better. I use sweet potatoes, squash, some gluten free oats. I would really recommend giving that a try. Maybe you had good luck with lo carb paleo--I did not at all. I like the philosophy and still eat that way but definitely eat more carbs with it and am much happier.0 -
I eat Paleo and do EMTWL. I don't do low-carb, though, mine are typically 150-200g a day. You definitely can do this while eating Paleo!0
