Minivelle Patch (hormone replacement) & primal/paleo

Hi there! I would love to hear about experiences of any gals who have been on the Minivelle estrogen replacement patch. How did it work for your menopause issues, any negative side effects, etc. thank you!

I think there are many reasons to NOT take these kinds of medications. Firstly, menopause is a natural part of life. Secondly, a healthy lifestyle can make menopause a little easier. Thirdly, the hormones in the environment are causing many problems in aquatic wildlife etc. Fourth, I don't give any of my money to pharmaceutical companies.... but no personal experience to share (but my mom was on hormones for years and decided it was a bad idea finally).

You might get more/better/positive feedback on pharmaceuticals in the general forums.

I can appreciate your opinion, thank you. Since I do eat paleo and live a healthy lifestyle, I purposely posted here.

    Anyone else?!

Julia, maybe they're all too young. Or maybe no one's used the patch you're referring to.

I had cancer so had a full hysterectomy almost 2 years ago. I take 1mg of estrodial a day. Last summer, I lost 35 pounds, got stupid and put it back on. Went back on Paleo this June and haven't lost one pound. I am stuck and I don't know what to do, it's getting frustrating for sure.

Having some blood work ran and seeing the doctor this week. Maybe it's thyroid I don't know. I'm hanging in there as best I can.

If it makes you feel better during this transitional time , why not?
Although I am far for menopause, I had a few in vitro fertilization where they start with completely shutting down your ovaries and put you a menopause like state. So I experienced all the menopausal side effects, and it was awful. If the patch makes it easier, go for it.
Just because you eat primal, it doesn't mean you have to throw away the advantage of modern medicine.

I was primal even before my pregnancy, but it did not prevent me using modern medicine to get pregnant. Without it , i would not have 2 great kids. There is a place and time for pharmaceuticals, IMHO.

Thanks redheadedmommy, I completely agree. And, there are a lot of great reasons for a little HRT, unfortunately the media has buried them! But every woman should decide for herself for sure.

As for me, I've used the patch for a month now, feel sooo much better too. I had a weird 4 pound weight gain but it did go away. ????

And actually I learned on a paleo oriented blog that estrogen helps the body lose fat. I'm sorry I can't remember the link though. It has to do with how estrogen works in the cells.

Thank you for all the responses!
