When you lift heavy what are you saying to yourself when you lift?
some of mine for high bar squats are:
heels and hips
chest up
strong core
elbows locked
I should be squatting 1000 lbs.
what are some of yours?

'How many is that'?
'You can do this'
'**** this is heavy' (when its really not ...but its heavy to me!)
'1 more, 1 more'
'How many set have I done' ? (I've a memory of a goldfish)
'Push,push,push'
'Breath' (if I find myself holding my breath)
'How many set have I done' ? (I've a memory of a goldfish)
Its generally stuff like this or Im just counting out the reps trying to remember how many sets ive done or have left0 -
The cue I give people when trying to squat or deadlift that works is "Ghetto Booty."
For some reason, when many people think about straightening their back, they tend to just pull their shoulders back and feel straighter, but still have a rounded back. If you focus on sticking your butt out, as opposed to keeping the back straight, it mentally cues the straight back.
Of coures their are other attributes to a correct squat and/or DL....but this is the biggie I see.0 -
Someone introduced me to CT Fletcher. Big mistake. I keep COMMANDING my mutha ****ing muscles to grow!!!!!!!
When I squat, if I feel lower back pressure, I automatically engage my lats/traps around the bar... tighten up... then BOOM it's all good.0 -
Bench:
Shoulders Back
Bend the bar
hold your air
drive the heels
squats:
back tight
chest up
knees out
deadlifts:
grip it and rip it0 -
For squats specifically I think of having a tight back, strong core, start the movement by releasing at the knees, and making sure my ankles are mobile.
For dead lifts I pretty much don't use any cues except for tight back and hump the bar.
Bench press my wrists have a tendency to cave in. I have to just remind myself to keep my wrists straight and make sure the bar path goes straight down.0 -
"Laces out, Dan! Laces out!"0
