Knee Pain Doing Dumbbell Squats

Hi All
I need some advice. I have been doing dumbbell squats for nearly four months.
I am now getting pain on the outside of my right knee while squatting and occasionally some light pain while climbing stairs.
I hold the dumbells next to my hips and try to keep my back straight. I have noticed I occasionally lift my heels but try not to.
I'm currently squatting 18kg in each hand.
For you information I also get some pain in my elbows.
Have I damaged my knee, or is this referred pain from the thigh muscles?
Should I know rest my knee, or try to improve squat form using lighter weights?

I started getting pain on the outside of my knee also. It turned out to be an IT band issue. Lots of stretching and foam rolling have helped, but it requires constant attention to remain pain free.
This might explain the knee, but I don't know why your elbows would hurt. It never hurts to drop the weight down and focus on form.0 -
Thanks, I think it could be an IT band issue as I have found an area above the knee that hurts when pressed. Going to do some massage of that area and see if it improves.0

Can you take a cell phone video of the squat, from the side and from the front or back, and submit it to our video thread?0
