Wave starts?

Options
I'm doing my 2nd Duathlon this weekend. My 1st one was a mass start all on bikes first.

This one starts as a 1km run in waves of 10 ladies every 30 seconds.

I was wondering whether events determine your wave position by when you collect the race pack or is it done when you entered as to which wave you are in?

And does it matter which wave you are in? Anyone had experience in this before either in a Triathlon or Duathlon?

Generally waves are done by age, but small local races can be funny about how they do it. It doesn't really matter which wave you're in as your time starts when the gun goes for your wave. I personally like to be a few waves back but not the last wave. Being a few waves back gives you people to chase and catch mini drafts off of, but at least here in Houston the last wave has to deal with more heat than the first few.

Oh thanks so much! The chasing bit sounds like some good motivation. Last year there were only 20 the category i'll be in so we will see how it goes :)
