Google escapism. I've never heard the term until today. It is probably a big reason for binge eating.
Definition:
"The tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, esp. by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy."
Shopping, watching TV, video games, all those things we waste hours on a day are usually ways of seeking escapism.
