Working out with a cold & lifting barefoot

Random....

Anyway ... Several weeks into things and moving forward without too much difficulty, but was wondering.

It feels like I maybe coming down with a cold. Do folks normally keep working out (cardio and/or resisistance training) through a cold or is it better to take a few days off?

Also, I don't like to lift in running shoes which are the only athletic shoe I have, so I normally just do it barefoot since I lift at home. Is this OK or would it be better to get something specific to lift in? I will probably be posting some vids this weekend to make sure my form is not too whacked, and was thinking that no shoes may have an undesireable impact on form.

    In my opinion:

Lifting with a cold is fine. You may want to reduce volume a bit, at least when I lift with a cold I have to drop volume down quite a bit. Listen to your body on that one.

Lifting barefoot is fine as long as you're aware of the potential risks to your feet (dropping a weight on them/etc).

I go between wearing Converse, running shoes, and bare feet to lift. I'm pretty sure that none of them will do much of anything if I drop a plate on them.

That's a fair point. It's probably minimal/zero protection if you actually drop something heavy on them.

I need steel toed boots lol. I've dropped 25 and 35 lb plates on my feet before. I didn't learn though and still go barefooted. I like feeling freeeeeee.

Like Side Steel said, listen to your body but cut the volume/weight since if you tire yourself out your immune system can't do its job as effectively. However, if you have a fever never work out. A fever already increases your heart rate, pushing it can cause damage.

That was the only time were not allowed to workout by our instructor. You could take it easy if you were sick but you still had to take class. But if you had a fever you weren't.

Converse chucks are cheap flat footed shoes but I'm old-school and go bare foot. Now I've also busted all my toes over the years of doing martial arts so dropping a plate on them wouldn't matter any more. ;-)

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry for appearing to be a lzy fkr but I thought of using the search feature right after posting. Got pretty much the same answers there.

Yeah fever hit me hard yesterday so pretty much laid in bed most of the day and putting off my Friday workout till Saturday if I feel up to it. Got me wondering though if I burn more or less calories with the cold. Laying around more, but the body seems to be working overtime fighting the bug.

...that and how to log the calories in cold medicine... (j/k - I've only been taking acetaminophen)
