Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh less than 3 weeks to the London Marathon! I'm starting to feel very nervous now it's so close!! This will be my first ever marathon and I'm so excited, but also feel sick at the thought of it! Lol

What races / runs have you got coming up? Will it be your first or are you aiming for a PB?

I'm hoping to complete mine in under 5 hours, I'd love to do it in 4.30 so that's my goal but I'd be happy to just make it under 5!

I wish you the best on you upcoming Marathon!

I have a 10K on April 19th. I normally run further than this distance, but I've never ran an official 10k. I'm doing this more so to support my brother in law. I normally try to help keep him on his goal pace and talk most of the run to keep us distracted, and it's just good guy time.

I have my first Half Marathon on May 4th. I'm slightly nervous about this one, but not overly so. I have ran 14 mile long runs in the past, so I know I can do it with proper training.

I have my first Full Marathon on October 12th. I am definitely nervous about this run. I've never ran this far before, the time between my half and full is longer than most canned training programs (I'm working on a training schedule), and it's something I really want to do and do right (cross the finish line without an injury).

Ah that all sounds amazing, I'm sure you'll be fine and both the 10k and half are good for practice 'races' for the full marathon!! I did a 10k back last October and loved it! That's the furthest 'race' I've done. I've signed up to do another 10k in July, and then I'm going to sign up for a half in October time ... I'm contemplating signing up to do a duathlon where you run 5k, cycle 40k, run 10k. I'm going to wait until I do the VLM in 3 weeks first and see how I find it!

'm struggling with my knees big time at the moment, I went for a long run on Sunday and they're still in agony today. I have ibubrufen gel which I'm rubbing on them but they're just so tender and sore :-( I'm just hoping they don't affect my marathon too much

Delaware Marathon on May 11th. It will be my 5th marathon. My goal time is sub 3:08, which would be a PR.

Zydeco Marathon in Lafayette, LA in only 5 days! My very first marathon. I am way more nervous than I thought I would be and this tapering is killing me!

My initial goal based on my recent half marathons was just under 4:00 but based on my pace & feel during and after the long training runs I'm not optimistic about that anymore. I will run the first half at a slow comfortable pace and decide from there where to take it. So I really have no time goal... just want to finish and savor the accomplishment.

That's the view I'm taking! To even do a marathon and finish is an amazing accomplishment, whether it's done in 3 hours or 10 hours!

Good luck to everyone with races coming up soon! :-)

Leatherwood 50-mile race on Saturday. First-ever ultra, so my main goal is just to finish. But I really don't want to be out there for more than 12 hours, either!

The in June I am doing the one that started me off this time last year - the ladies mini marathon ( 10K) in Dublin. I'm really looking foward to it no chance of doing a pb in it - 40,000 woman took part last year! but fantastic atmosphere and craic.

Knoxville HM this Sunday. I've been [actively] training for it since January and I'm shooting for 1:35 +/-2:00, preferably the (-) side! Was originally shooting for 1:38 or better, but a recent 1:37 PR on a tougher course with tired legs made me tweak my goal a bit.

Golden Gate Headlands Trail Race this next Sunday (26.2) and then Yakima Skyline Rim Trail Race, April 20 (50k). The first race is a training run for the second one. Both have some significant climbs and I've been trail and hill training for months now.

My only goals are to finish in one piece and to best my time from the last similar race.

    :drinker:

YAY!!! for all of us! Race on!

Just had a 10k on Saturday that I finished in 59:42 with a negative split (Second half was 3 minutes faster than first half!) I'm learning that I do much better if I make myself conserve energy at the beginning and don't go out too fast.

I have a 15k next weekend- my goal is to run a negative split and finish in under 1:30 (this is my first 15k); then I have a Half Marathon on May 3rd and I'm hoping for under 2:10 (PR is 2:14).

Already signed up for my second full marathon in October (Columbus) and hoping to come in under 5 hours. (PR is 5:14) Maybe next year I'll be ready to tackle an ultra!

You guys are all awesome! Sounds like a lot of fun races coming up for everyone :D

Gazelle Girl Half Marathon on April 13th. My second HM, but it's been 4.5 years since my first one. My sister is trying to talk me into this:
Grand Rapids River Bank 25K on May 10th.

Pittsburgh HM May 4 - no real goals for this one, other than to finish. All of the time I was hoping to spend building a solid base was actually spent battling a nasty case of the flu and then a week in the hospital (for an unrelated matter that took close to a month to recover from).

Air Force Marathon Sept. 20 - hoping to come in under 4 hours. I'm using the training for Pittsburgh to build up for marathon training.

I may scatter a few 10k's and another HM to help prepare for the marathon.

Here are my big spring races (excluding 5K & 10K):

-Around the Bay - 30K this sunday. First time doing that distance; aiming for sub 2:45:00.
-Montréal, Qc - Half April 27th. Aiming for sub 1:50:00 (This would mean shaving +16:00 off my PR)
-Ottawa, Ontario - Full May 25th. First marathon. Goal is to finish with a SMILE! :)

    Good luck to everyone :)

If you're trained up in time for the Gazelle girl you'll be plenty ready for the extra 2.4 miles in another month. You can do it!

Just keep in mind, its all slightly downhill on the way out and all slightly uphill on the way back. It's devilish.

I'm hoping to complete mine in under 5 hours, I'd love to do it in 4.30 so that's my goal but I'd be happy to just make it under 5!

First, 5 hours for a first marathon is quite respectable. Or as John "the Penguin" Bingham suggests: "finish the same day that you start." I've run two marathons since November in the 5:10 to 5:12 range. Both of them were not at full throttle (I'd rate them both at about 65% of capacity). Tired at the end, yes. Wasted? No! In fact, I was ready to pick up again three days later after my last marathon. Nothing really exhausted after the race even though it rained most of the whole race.

Second, you are beginning to feel "taper sickness" or "taper fever." Trust me, it will get worse before it gets better. Just remember rule number one (two, three, four, and five): Never do anything different on race day that you hadn't found out that worked for you during training.

Third, if you've done your training with integrity, trust your training. You've trained for the right to run the race and you wilstart something that most people would never imagine themselves doing. Run smart, particularly in the beginning, and your training will carry you through.

I just completed a half-marathon a couple of weeks ago (2:13:47) that I ran at about 75-80% of maximum output as a warm-up race for my next marathon in 2-1/2 weeks (Rock and Roll Raleigh). My theoretical finish time is much less than 5:00:00, but i haven't decided just how much I'll push on this course. Flat, it is not. But I have lots of hills that I run as part of my routine runs without having to go out of my way to run hills.

I will be running the Tarheel 10-miler on April 26th.

After that, my next scheduled race is November 2 (City of Oaks, Raleigh). I am already working on my training routine for the summer.

Running my first 50K in October-Market-to-Market- in Lincoln, NE. Surely I'll race some shorter ones before that but haven't found those races yet. Trying to break out of pattern of running the same races in the same places every year. Good luck to y'all in your races!

Wow, that is crazy! I never know how to pace myself for events like that. Do you go all-out in the first one or try to be consistent throughout?

Looks interesting but what state are you doing it in and why will it hurt? Big climbs? I've never heard of this so now I'm curious!

I've got a trail 3.5 miler in 5 weeks and then a road 5K 2 weeks after that. Then, it's 4 months of training to prepare for a mile race and the sequel to my road 5K.
