Great Doctor Visit!

I had a follow up visit with my doctor, and my first one since I got insurance. In a nutshell, she is thrilled with my progress and even gave me a hug at the end. It is really gratifying to have your doctor tell you that they wished all of their patients were like you :blushing:

I am down to testing only once a day and she wants me to do it before lunch since my morning and evening numbers are a bit skewed from "dawn syndrome" and glucose dumps when I have my exercise class. The best news is that, as soon as my readings are consistently between 70 and 90 I can go off the meds (I take glipizide, my kidneys did not like metformin). There is no reason for me to get more aggressive than my 1lb a week weight loss goal and my 180g of carbs a day are just fine. She has also referred me to a nutrition specialist so I can get even more information about my diet and eating habits, both for weight loss and diabetes. Finally, she ordered a CBC and if my ferritin and hemoglobin are both still up I can go off the high potency iron. All in all, great news!

I printed off some of the reports from MFP to take with me. I did the calories, carbs, and iron for the last 90 days and she really liked them. They were clear as to how I was doing and she even pointed to the couple of spikes saying "good that you allow yourself the occasional splurge, everyone needs that once in a while".

That's great news!!! I have a doctor appointment tomorrow. That's a good idea to print the reports from MFP to show the doctor. I will definitely do that. How exciting!1

If you do, you only need page 3. The entire thing prints out 4 pages but the graph is all I want.

That's wonderful! Congratulations! You worked hard, stayed the course and now you reap the benefits. :)

I recently had my diabetes check up and had my blood work done. Everything was great....my A1C was 6,6. I thought it might be higher. The Dr. said as long as I keep it under 7 I am in good shape.

The one thing that was scary was my blood pressure...it was high. I have never had high blood pressure in my life. I had gained back 15 of the 50 pounds I lost on MFP (and reset my ticker to reflect that) so the Dr. told me to get that weight back off and watch my sodium. When I go back in 3 months, if my pressure hasn't gone down, he will have to put me on meds. Apparently, high blood pressure in diabetics is common. Well, the last thing I want to do is go on another medication so I am back and being accountable again, I only take metformin and I want to try very hard to get off of that. I have currently lost 3 pounds of the 15!

Oh...and I know how it feels to have health insurance again. I qualified in March. I haven't had it since my divorce 15 years ago. It is so nice to no longer have to worry about getting the care I need.

Great news , you have been working hard ...I think the print outs do work magic with the doctors, they eat that stuff up.

It must be the month of good results as far as doctor visits go. Every one is putting in serious time and effort in working their programs. Its great to see the pay off after so much hard work.

Of course I think some of the sucess we have had is from the good karma we've built up supporting each other.

It would be interesting to see how those of us who seek answers and help on MFP compare to those who dont as far as doctor visits go.

That is wonderful, hard work paying off. I am newly diagnosed. Just this month, trying to educate myself on how to manage, so many conflicting information. My biggest question is this reversible?

In a word: yes. It will never be "cured" and all of us will need to watch ourselves for the rest of our lives, but T2 diabetics frequently reach the point where it can be managed without medication. Each person is different and some will always need medication or insulin but you won't know if you are one who can manage it with lifestyle changes until you do it.

Received my blood work. The hemoglobin and hematocrit are both back in the middle of the normal range but the ferritin is low normal so I still need to take my high dose iron pill. I am considered to be cured of the anemia but with the lower ferritin level I am still not quite at my best yet.

A little background: over the holidays I looked so bad that my family (Mom, brother, SIL) urged me to get to a doctor which I had been putting off because of no insurance. It turns out that my hemoglobin was down to 5.3 (12-15 is normal) and my ferritin was 3 (12-150 is normal for women). I ended up in the hospital and got 4 units of blood and 1 unit of iron. Blood tests during my hospital stay indicated diabetes also.

Interesting thought. I'd love to know too.

I agree that the information MFP gives you helps you become more aware of what is going on with your body and any time you can quickly show your doctor that you are aware of what is happening the happier they are because they don't have to explain the same things over and over.
