Adding stuff back in

Lucky for me I don't have any type of digestive issues which necessitated adopting paleo so now that I have been doing it for a while and enjoying it, I figured I would start to add a few things back in and see how it goes. First up was kefir which I always enjoyed and still do. Recently I bought a jar of natural peanut butter and so far no ill effects.

For the rest of you, are there some non-paleo foods which you have added back into your diet? How did that go?

For me it was Greek Yogurt, oats (pre-WOD), and some white rice (post WOD). No ill effects digestive wise. I sleep better on those nights and seem to recover/perform better with the extra carbs.

You need to get out of my head. ;) I just bought some plain unsweetened kefir yesterday to "add back in." I'm in desperate need of some probiotics. Haven't had any kefir yet, I'm still recovering from my non-paleo meal this weekend, that threw my insides for a loop. I settled for some kombucha until I'm ready for kefir.

As for peanut butter, I have some natural peanut butter at home, but I "accidentally" had some about a month ago thinking it was almond butter. I got really sick... like food poisoning type of sick. I don't know if it was a coincidence or if it really was the peanut butter, but I'm a little hesitant to test it out again.

I've added back heavy cream once a week or so and it always causes tummy issues the next day, which is another reason I'm slow moving with adding kefir back. I've never known myself to react to dairy, but sheesh... the longer its removed from my gut, the more problems it's causing.

This was totally a TMI post, you're welcome.

Awhile ago I tried adding back in oats (certified wheat free) and it was a WIN. However, I'm not at a point where I can eat a lot of carbs (starch and sugar) yet but it's nice to know that I can have oats when I'm ready.

Unfortunately, when I was on holidays I added a bunch of things back in all at once and that was a big fail. So obviously if I want to know what foods I tolerate and which ones I don't I need to add things back in isolation. duh

I've also recently added back a few things; greek yogurt (NOT the low fat, sugar filled kind.. LOL), oats (very rarely, never ate them much to begin with), and very occasionally a tiny bit of cheese.. I am leaning towards less red meat lately too, and I've noticed the scale move faster. I have started adding egg whites to my whole eggs, and lots of fish and chicken- cut waay back on the beef.

Oh yeah.. and kidney beans, black beans, chick peas. Need to get my protein up without that red meat.. and these are the only things I was truly upset about cutting out in the first place.. lol

I came back to a whole goat milk kefir, cheeses, peanuts and while on vacation had things with corn in them many times, all with no ill effects. I still only play with these in real small quantities and even pass on the cheese sometimes just keeping the food as simple as possible. I have a bag of dried beans in the pantry but it has been there for nearly a month but I want to try them out some day.

I decided to have a muffin once in awhile... you know, those big decadent ones. I recommitted to primal a few weeks ago and tried eating a muffin, and then had white rice later that day. Bad idea, was in so much pain! So maybe just one thing every other week would be enough...
